We weren't title holders when the First World War actually broke out. We won the title in 1915 which was the last season before the league was suspended because of the war. We therefore held the title throughout the duration of the war and were title holders when the Armistice was signed.

Similarly, we held the title throughout the Seond World War, having won it in 1939. Therefore we were title holders at the time of any event in that war, Pearl Harbor, D-day, dropping of the first atomic bomb etc.

Makes me think ..... If it were the rs they'd be clamouring to have those 10 years of holding the title added to their title list.
