We need to talk about Notts County.

1984 FA Cup QF, Meadow Lane, won 2-1. Richardson from a properly taken long throw and Andy Gray with the winner from diving header off his hip (fell over?) when it was easier to kick it in. We had half the ground, behind one goal and down one side. Torrential rain the whole game, uncovered terracing, completely sober fans cllmbing floodlight pylons (one got at least halfway) and sliding back down covered in silver anti-climb paint into the arms of the coppers waiting for them back on the ground.

Went to an FA Cup game their once and climbed up one of the floodlights with a load of other lads for a laugh.

I was at that game.

Their ground at the time was like a load of sheds, strung together at the side of the pitch, with terracing with no roof for the away fans.

It was a proper grim ground.
