Backs to the wall football worked for Dyche at Burnley because they were punching well above their weight by surviving for years. And he got away with it for us because our squad/finances were an absolute mess and we were in pure survival mode.

But Notts have an absurdly expensive squad at their disposal unable to shake a relegation battle. I don't know how anyone can describe what he's doing there as the bare minimum.

i thought they’d be mid table by now

he’s doing a terrible job. they finished 7th last year and were unfortunate not to finish higher

they only lost elanga and you could argue Hutchinson is an upgrade, and added a plethora of exciting and expensively assembled talent to their squad

dyche is having a terrible season

With the players they have and the money they have spent 17th is well below expectations. I respect the job Dyche did for us but he has dragged them down to his level really (even though they were a mess from Ange).

He really has gone out of his way to show that he can take a team that challenged for Europe last year and bring them down to his level at the bottom of the table.

He is a 38 point a season man. I'd be interested to see what his average points tally has been across the premier league, because I bet the only outlier is the Burnley season when he got Europe, everything else will be within 5 points or so

I think the comparison that works best to show just how bad a manager he is will be Sam Allardyce.

Allardyce came and took us over in a situation very similar to what Dyche inherited. We were a good team that had dropped down to 18th when the decision to sack Koeman was made and 13th when Allardyce took over. We were a team that was in Europe that completely fell apart just like this Forest team.

A lot of people were interested to see what a constant relegation battlers like Allardyce could do with that squad. As it turned out, he improved us but the signs were there that his negative tactics of 11 men behind the ball were going to persist no matter how close to the bottom we were. This leopard could not change his spots and he was sacked at the end of the season.

Allardyce at least managed to drag us up the table from 13th to 8th with his terrible footy.

Dyche has implemented his terrible footy and has achieved a massive leap from 18th to 17th. Enough to keep them safe, maybe, but a far worse performance than Allardyce.
