We could finish anywhere from 7th - 18th: Europa a no-no?

What’s funny about all of this is that despite the completely unbalanced side we have and two managers allergic to passing a ball up the pitch, we’re still likely to finish higher than in each of brown shoes last two seasons. What in the world was that man doing?

7th and Europa out of this mess would be ridiculous.

Think we should be swerving Europa this year anyway if I'm being completely honest, get the club sorted out first. It practically killed us this season.

It didn't kill us, too many new players all at once and several key injuries and not recruiting in key positions are what damaged us.

Anyway what do you mean? Swerve it until we get the club sorted....so we can get in to Europe?

I think our parlous performance in this season's Europa has somewhat jaundiced my view on whether I would want, so quickly, to re-engage in the competition. There is still a fair bit of winnowing to be done on our squad and I think I'd prefer an uninterrupted summer (i.e. free of qualification games) to best undertake such process*.
So, in short, I'd take a rain check on a potential next season's European sortie with a view to getting us in better shape over the summer to tackle the domestic competitions (and hopefully, via success in those, Europe again thereafter).

* I think this restructuring/realigning of the squad might take a bit of working through. And thanks to inept transfer profligacy, money will be a lot tighter next summer because despite EFC making a projected hefty profit in 2018 (thanks in large to the Lukaku sale), I see our debt levels as having increased a fair bit.

I’m not bothered about Europa league at all. I would rather win a domestic cup and finish 15th than be out of both domestic cups and finish 7th.

The Europa League just doesn’t work for premiership clubs, it’s ok for these leagues where it’s not competitive like the premier league, Europa League is an added bonus for those teams. I think we should put our U23s in it, if we ever qualify for it again

If we're wanting to rip it up and start over again in June then Europe will end up being a hindrance. If anything we can just concentrate on doing well in the domestic cups to start off with.

Don't get me wrong, I love us being in European competition, but our form just seems to die every season we're involved. We need to fully prepare for it and that won't happen in one summer.

We should be striving to get as high up the table as we should every season. Realistically we can finish 7th, and that's what we should be aiming for, which would be a truly unbelievable result given how dire we've looked for long stretches this season.

Will we get there? Leicester could implode over the Mahrez deal falling through, and then there's Burnley. And then there's us. Amazing.

We need to finish 7th, hit the reset button in June, and kick on. With Seamus back and sweet Theo in the side, we really should get there.

I definitely want Europa again, we owe it to ourselves to try and rescue what was an absolutely diabolical European campaign from ourselves and we broke records for English teams for all the wrong reasons. I really hope if we somehow manage to salvage it we can have a proper go at it next season under a new manager with a settled team.

What a hilarious indictment of the state of the Premier League that Everton - who have been utterly appalling - could make European football.

Also an indictment of how bloody bloated European football has become.
