Has he actually said anything ? His return has been a disaster as many had predicted, many fans are critical of the "old boys" type appointments yet were happy to suggest Arteta would be an excellent appointment despite the fact that he has no experience and lets face it was highly unlikely to come anyway. We need to remove our blue tinted specs and appoint/buy on merit not some pathetic "he was one of us" line.

It hasn't been a disaster though, has it.

He's finished the season as our top scorer (despite having not scored in 2018!).

He delivered some really good performances in a side that wasn't performing to anywhere close to its best. He stepped it up when the entire club needed a boost in that game against West Ham and he secured the most unlikeliest of points at Anfield.

The mistake made was signing him without a proper idea how to get the best out of him throughout the season. When Gylfi got injured it was no surprise that Rooney's impact was limited - the guy had nobody around him on the same wavelength.

I'm not saying he's been brilliant, and clearly he doesn't have long left at the top.

Shame we won't get to see him a final time - although, it's ridiculous if we don't have a friendly in DC set up for next season - but it hasn't been a disaster at all. Not set the world alight, but he was never going to.

If he goes he goes with my blessing. In a functioning side things could have been different. And I still think there's other players who need to be punted first.

He was part of one of the worst seasons/football I have ever seen, so what he was highest scorer, I sure Kane etc. was shitting themselves he would catch up. His off the field antics 5 minutes after signing where sadly indicative of a rich spoilt brat who never hears the word "No" and only had his own reasons for rejoining us. He didn't hesitate to do one to the Mancs after all "once a blue always a blue", I am sick of us chasing manc cast offs that invariably never work out, and don't get me started on his wages - what a f'in waste all round. Do one.

That isn't the point.

Pickford was also part of the worst season - d'you want him gone?

Rooney made a mistake in his personal life. Crap like that happens.

He did okay for us. Not brilliantly but it wasn't a disaster. There's lots of factors why it didn't work out as we hoped in that he'd be leading us to a challenge for the top six - some down to him, some down to the fact he's lost that yard of pace and touch, and a lot down to factors outside of Rooney's control.

It wasn't a waste, because without those 11 goals he scored we'd be a lot worse off.

You're coming across as a grown man who never got over the fact he left when he was 18. You've held a grudge for 14 years?

He was nowhere near one of the worst performers.

So you admit he has lost any pace he had and his touch has gone - so why did we want him ? Not bitter about him leaving as if a player wants to go to a bigger club there's not a lot we can do about it. I'm mad we bothered bringing him back when he was obviously not up to it and not wanted by the mancs but we'll take him off your hands, another reject accepted. Nobody I know thinks it was a good idea - cos it wasn't.

Joyce's latest piece - if anyone with a Times Sub can access it.

Basically saying he's on holiday in Barbados but will fly from there to DC to have talks and potentially a medical, depending on a deal being sorted, I think.
Wayne Rooney will leave his family holiday in Barbados to fly to Washington for talks with DC United about a move to the United States.

His Everton future remains in the hands of the Goodison Park club, but they have given him permission to speak to the MLS side.

Completing a deal is different, however, and discussions between Rooney, his representatives and DC United officials will focus on whether an agreement can be struck and whether the former England captain sees DC United as the sort of club he wants to play for and whether the area is right for his family.

At this stage, it remains essentially a fact-finding exercise rather than a firm commitment.

DC United would have to pay a transfer fee to Everton for the 32-year-old, who returned to his boyhood club last summer from Manchester United in what he believed was a long-term commitment.

Rooney — who finished the season as Everton’s leading goalscorer — is scheduled to be given a tour of the city, meet the managing general partner Jason Levien and the general manager Dave Kasper. Levien also owns a stake in Swansea City, who were relegated to the Championship.

The striker will also visit DC United’s new stadium, Audi Field, which is nearing completion and is likely to speak to the coach Ben OIsen during a whirlwind visit.

Rooney has been left hurt and disappointed by Everton’s apparent willingness to let him leave, although he is expected to speak to the club’s new manager before making any final decision. Marco Silva is Everton’s first choice to replace Sam Allardyce, who was sacked last week.

Should Rooney sign for DC he would become the most expensive player in their 22-year history. The American club is prepared to pay him at least $5million per year through to 2020.

“Hurt that disappointed by Everton’s willingness to let him go”

When you weigh it up, I can see his point, especially with some of the trash in the squad.

Maybe looking at players we can sell on and actually get some fees in from.
