what also has to be considered though mate is he has been playing for a united side which even with having major troubles still had a plethora of top talented players in the side and who still finished around the top 4

It depends on how they define "finished". If they compare the present Rooney with the one who played with Ronaldo and Tevez, of course he is finished.

But if finished means that there are many other players in his positions who are clearly better than him, then try to ask them which United players were better than Rooney in the Van Gaal and Moyes seasons, see how many can they mention. Don't bother to ask them for proof such as stats though, that is simply don't exist.

Rooney was Uniteds best player under Moyes and first season Van Gaal. Sadly he’s faded. We should have picked him up when SAF left. Now he’s probably 2 seasons too far gone.

I think the thing with Wayne is, he doesn't trust the rest of the players on the pitch to do their jobs - hence floating around everywhere.

Of course he can't, look at his decision making in his private life. If you were looking for someone to organise a piss up in a brewery then Wayne's your man. Anything more responsible than that then maybe you want someone different.
