Watching Tim Howard for USA

Argentina are tearing through the defense and hoarding possession, but stellar play from Tim Howard has kept the American side in the game. Very impressed by the Everton man, it's always good to see. If I'm honest, it looks like Landy has been away from the game for too long. SHOULD HAVE COME BACK.

Be nice if he could do that for us, as well. Been awful most of this year.

He was MoM for sure.

about 3 or 4 magnificent hollywood saves and great positioning the entire game.

That one on one with Messi was pure Gordan Banks stuff Mexico circa 1970 against Pele.

Howard had a great game. He had great command of his D tonight.

I hope lots of Everton fans saw the game - Tim was magnificent. Absolutely great.

Timothy Chandler - hellloooooooooo. You are looking quite good young lad. Same with Juan, but I was more impressed with Chandler.

And icburns - I think it was hard to judge LD or Dempsey - they just never saw the dang ball much since our midfield had such a problem stringing balls together. Both players were much better in the 2nd half once we got our act together. I think LD just looks like he has had four months off and it's his third game of the year. Can't complain really, he's not up to speed yet. Clint on the other hand tired towards the end of the game - hope he gets some rest for the Gold Cup.

It's true, Donovan had some decent set pieces, and Dempsey was well involved in the 15 minutes of possession not dominated by the Argentines.

Tale of two halves.

Stunning football from Argentina in the first half. The USA couldn't get anywhere near the ball and the few times we did, we coughed it right back up.

Cue changes from Bob Bradley in the 2nd half and the USA played much better. Impressed with Chandler's debut and what can you say about Aguledo?

Overall, a good performance from Team USA considering the opposition and the players they had on the field.

I admit I'm not an expect on US Football but aren't you always awful in the first half but much better in the 2nd? I thought that was your trademark.

yeah, there's usually a goal conceded in the first 15 minutes, and then we pull our sh*t together and come back in the second half.

For some reason, we play well with our backs against the wall. I think it's partially because we come out of our bunker ball shell. It's almost like we realize, hey we actually have some talent!, and finally go at it. :)

Agree with your assessment TX Bill. I hope we get to see more Chandler on Tuesday. And I think Agudelo may have earned himself a start. The question is, who will his partner be?

And who are we going with at midfield against Paraguay? Especially since a host of veterans already played. Here's the thing: Mexico absolutely walloped Paraguay - anything less than a win on our side is going to start tongues wagging about this potentially being the year for Mexico (at the Gold Cup) instead. Which may be good for us since we seem to like to play as underdogs rather than favorites.

Good games of football this coming week - another USMNT game, hopefully the Galaxy can erase their absolutely dire game against RSL, and an Everton game too! Hope I'm not depressed all week. :P

I think that Mexico game was a fluke. Paraguay had a strong world cup, they were a missed penalty away form beating Spain. I don't know if Barrios, Cardozo and Santa Cruz will go scoreless for two straight games.

It'll be interesting that's for sure - here's hoping for another win! I'm really curious as to who is going to be playing with such a short turnaround time.
