http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...eat-Man-City-Toffees-set-pieces-let-down.html - i agree with everything said in this article. Im 100% behind martinez but this is basically an ego trip. I used to get so annoyed with arsenal fans around the invincibles year when they basically were unhappy with a goal that wasn't a "beautiful goal", and I think martinez is the same. He needs to sort it out immediately.

Great article, that.

It echoes what many round these parts have been saying for months now.

That said, Bobby's disdain for corners doesn't explain why Baines has becomes so inept at taking one.

Or why the manager hasn't told him to eff off when we get one. Does it really need someone drawing a picture on a whiteboard at Finch Farm for one of the highly paid coaches to hit on the idea of getting someone else to take them?

'I do prefer open play goals, I'm not going to hide it. A goal from open play is a more satisfying goal.'

I'm not arsed what is more "satisfying", we just need ANY goals! He does my head in sometimes you know
You win games by scoring more goals than the opposition, regardless how satisfying or beautiful the goals!
I'd happily win by own goals every week !

.....er....we have had other men taking them.

Mirallas and Barkley are just as bad.

When McGeady is on the pitch he should be taking them....he takes better corners than Baines and those other boys.

We had more corners than we had shots at goal on Saturday.

For a man like Bobby, for whom football is all about possession stats and percentages as far as I can see, you'd think he might like to rethink his corner kick policy.

This corner business is really bugging me now.

We had seven corners on Saturday....that is seven chances to apply pressure but as our manager doesn't value corners absolutely no thought is put into trying to make sommat from then.

Pathetic.

You also need people threatening to score from corners to make them look decent. We all see awful corners result in a goal cos someone flicks them from the front post and leaps above everyone else or makes a late run with good heading abilities. I'd love to see our headed goals ratio 2012 onwards when Cahill left to that in the Cahill era.

It's strange the way he does this though - he doesn't care if we score from corners, says its a chance for us to lose possession yet allows everyone forward and for us to put it into the box never beating the first man. A big contradiction - on his logic take it short every time and leave more people back!!!

Sounds like we should have had someone marking toure! He seemed to know where they were all going.

When managers talk like that it sets off alarm bells.

Remember last season the eve of the Old Traffird game?

He gave an interview in The Guardian where he said that he would rather lose 5-0 playing an open, expansive game than scrape a 1-0 victory in a dull game.

Ive felt that too. If you absolutely abhor corners, why bring Jagielka and whomever forward?

Great point. Corners are now an actual disadvantage for us. Half the time I'm fearful of getting beat on the counter. On a related note, last season we were excellent at counter attacking on opposition corners. Have seen less of that this season. But that is probably because we have been pants at most about everything in the league this season

Do we really have the players to be getting on the end of corners? Lukaku or Jagielka maybe but otherwise we've no targets in there. My theory is that Baines et al are instructed to take a mid-height, whipped in corner as a more lofted corner will be easily won by the opposition (who most weeks have bigger side than us).

As was stated earlier, a team scores from a corner every 10-15 games - I can understand why Martinez isn't focusing on them. We scored 61 league goals last season!

He's gone all Moyes when we defend corners as well.

Every man back.

Clear it and it's coming right back at us.

Yes....a fact Clarke Carlisle spends a whole EL game going on about :(

Ross's goal at the Barcodes came about because Gerald was loitering outside the box when they took a corner.

Sad to see the whole team in the box again.
