VPNs

Surfshark seems fine for me. Don't want my ISP raising flags about copyright infringements and don't want to go through age verification for smut. Own it lads, don't pretend it's for legitimate reasons.

EDIT - the clean web thing does seem to do a good job of blocking various ads even on YouTube and is even good enough at clearing ads and popups to make local newspaper websites half readable.

I'm a simple soul who just wants to defeat the BBC iPlayer geo block

Think I'll have a go with the 2 year plan offered by Nord,if any forum members have it already apparently they can get an added months bonus by recommending it to me. Check the app to see how it's done and pm me ?

Say you had a firestick with a VPN, what country would you use to ‘hide’ behind?
You should be fine with any country unless you really are a big dude..

Nah, I really just use America, not for any particular reason tho, if your after better conection speeds than you can do a latency check to see the best places

A friend of mine …. Uses Chicago

I use Duck Duck Go as a browser and I pay for additional services such as a VPN, email privacy, and removal from those "people finder" websites. I pay $100/year for it, but in the grand scheme of privacy, I find it worth it. The VPN is very easy to turn off/on. They are not one of these dodgy scammer sites.

I have a discount link for Nord with 3 month money back guarantee. I'll dm it to you and it's your choice after that

Proton and one of the others (some European VPN) are the ones I see recommended everywhere by everyone. Proton is great. Nord I hear has quite a few problems for some and works great for others. You can also get a black Friday deal for VPN on the cheap usually.
It's all very confusing, some people swear by a certain VPN while other say it's rubbish. Trying to sort your way through the various discount deals is a job in itself.

Proton to me has all you would likely need and then some. An app for the whole PC, browser extension for strictly web browsing, mobile app, split tunneling, kill switch to protect your privacy in case the VPN craps out on you and you can use 10 devices simultaneously. As with most VPns some sites flag addresses but I hear Proton tends to have less of that problem than Nord and some others (maybe because it is a tad less popular idk). The speeds have always been great for me. I love it.

If a mate had paid for Proton which countries or features would they focus on for enhanced performance.
I'd have to toy around with it, but I usually test connections with something like Fast.com and I usually get a good answer as to which connections are being throttled, etc. There is also a setting I think which improves performance, but I think it is turned on by default. I'd have to check
