Violence in Mexico

Appalling scenes from Mexico in an abandoned match between Queretaro and Atlas. A full scale riot, it is feared that at least 20 Atlas fans were beaten, degraded and killed. Blood-curdling footage all over Twitter. Horrible.

Initial reports directly after the event had the death toll being at least 17, then it got revised to 2 dead and 17 injured.

Reports seem very mixed, some still claiming multiple deaths whilst others reporting none

Apparantly most of the bodies were unconscious people, not dead people

The Mexican govt and police will cover up any damaging outcome so to their reputation so I’ve no faith in their official figures.

AP, BBC etc and most major news sources are using the official numbers but seen Mexicans on Twitter claiming it’s a coverup and that plenty died and even more crazy that it was a planned ambush on Atlas fans partially orchestrated by the actual club Queretaro.

Search Twitter, lots of videos and images. It’s pretty grim stuff though, lads being kicked in the head repeatedly by tons of people whilst already unconscious, then being stripped naked.

Just can't believe this stuff still goes on. It's madness to go watch a sporting event and have dozens die. The government is saying "oh, the number of people who died at the HOSPITAL is higher, but they didn't die at the ground". Just despise the world we live in right now.

To video and let them go viral, well, that’s even worse.

Football should never result in death.
