David Moyes has underlined the need for patience as Victor Anichebe continues his Everton development.

The 18-year-old striker has been largely impressive this term, scoring three times and making several first team starts.

The Everton manager is closely monitoring Anichebe's football education though, and is keen to re-emphasise his tender years.

"It's very easy to forget that Victor is in his first season," Moyes told evertonfc.com.

"It's easy to forget the age of the boys. I have said many times when people say to me about Victor playing more often, people have to trust us and take what we are saying as being correct."

Moyes remains confident that Anichebe will blossom at Everton.

The manager continued: "I have been saying for a while that Victor is lacking a little bit of confidence just now.

"We were short last week (against Spurs) and decided that was the best way to go. He is a good player and the boy will get better.

"We have been really impressed with how he has done. In pre-season he got some goals and that is what brought him to our attention more.

"He has been around the team and done well, mainly coming on as a substitute. We want that to continue and just at this moment in time he is having a little dip.

"It is my job to try and get him back as quickly as I can."

What do you think of Vic?

His physical presence is very impressive and he has the ability to dominate defenders but he's still very raw and technically not that good yet. Hopefully this season will have seen him learn a lot on that front.

Agreed definetly one for the future. Has he the will power and pace for the prem game in Moyes tactical format. Still open to discussion I fear at this point in time. Still he is very young and needs to gain shrewdness in his approach to the game.

I'm more than happy with him, he is on a sharp learning curve but he at least knows where the net is, unlike some:biggrin:

I think he can turn into a good player.

Hes not always gonna be a player that can start and i think hes better coming off the bench to give defenders who will have there tired legs something to trouble them.

Hes a ''battering ram'' as i like to call.

Hes someone who can do a job for us cus hes different to alot of strikers, he just needs to learn his trade maybe on loan?

I like it how he gives alot of foriegn defenders torrid times, like against Chelsea he was battering them and they didnt know how to handle him.

English defenders are used to him cus English players know about the physical game but it will be a good bet to use Vic against some team who has foriegn defenders as i feel he is abit of a weakness to them due to his physical presence.

hes got a lot to learn and defo moving in the right direction. i think he has the build to trouble defenders

one thing that worries me a little is, i was up for the fa cup v blackburn game, we sat in the family enclosure close to our dug out and vic got told off a few times and then a right bollocking from moyes for not doing what he was supposed to be doing but in his defence he did look knackered

Yes, there was a match where the lad scored but DM announced to the world that he'd given Vic a right bollocking at half time, IMO DM was way out of order. That day there were many playing worse than him, I still can't for the life of me see what good DM announcing that to the world would do the lad. Surely with young players any reprimand should be done in private because in my book those comments reflected badly on Moyes and not a goal scoring apprentice:dodgy:

Think that was the Newcastle game where he scored twice.

Yuhuh, But i also didnt think it was good for Moyes to bollock him, Strikers are there to score, not always to have a good game but to score and he did that.

I just think this lad may not be all he's cracked up to be. He's like a young Emile Heskey and once people suss out his game he will have to drop down a level. Hopefully Im wrong.

IMO he is better than BT now, but thats not hard is it!:P

I have found it surprising how Moyes has handled Anichebe and to some extent Vaghan also. On one hand he has bigged up both saying they are the future if the club when you thinkhe would be down playing expectations (praticularly as a club we have a tendency to run away with ourselves), while also taking the pressure of the young lads.

What further surprised me was not the bollocking he gave anichbe but the fact he was so public in stateiing it (however tounge in cheek the comments were). For me that his been a departure form him his previous handleng of players and praticularly young players. My mind casts me back to when rooney was at the club and was showing frequent outbursts of aggression and kicking lumps out of opposing players and his staunch defence of what were at times legitimate decisons for yellow and red cards.

In the long term i think Vic if he gets a regular starting place will be doing well to be a 7-10 goals a season man.

I disagree with many when they say a striker is there to score goals to an extent. I beleive a partnership can be successfull if you have 15-20 goal a season man like AJ and a big dominating forward who can occupy/dominate defenders move them out of position and take attention away from his strike partner/ get knock downs and generally create space for your main finisher. A 7-10 goal return with a partnership like that is a bonus. Im thinking of Quinn and Philips at Sunderland in the 90s, Shearer and Sutton at Blackburn, and to a more contempory partnership Henry and Adebeyhor at Arsenal.

If Vic could fill this roll as the coaching staff are hoping and developing him toward (likening him to Drogba) he can be potential first teamer for us.
