Howard - 7 - Made some terrific saves
Hibbert - 6 - Perisic got the best of him a few times but he defended really well
Jagielka - 7 - Really is back to his best
Distin - 6 - Did well again - looking like he's got some confidence again
Garbutt - 6 - Defended superbly and got forward well when he could
McCarthy - N/A - Gutted he got injured. (Osman - 6 - Involved in both goals - does give us creativity in the middle)
Besic - 8 - Thought he was brilliant. Good passing and superbly quick feet.
McGeady - 6 - Defended well but was disappointing going forward - missed a sitter
Eto'o - 7 - Sammy Eto'o, though
Mirallas - 7 - Great finish and good pass for Rom's goal
Lukaku - 8 - Man of the match. Played it perfectly.

Martinez - 8 - Spot on

If we can just sign Perisic now, we'll win the (Europa) League

Our squad have every combination of appearance possible.

Bundesliga OS match analysis. http://www.bundesliga.com/en/el/news/2014/0000307747.php

'Vee voss robbed' I think is the tone.

Their goal was perfectly legit. I'm surprised to see it wiped out. The linesman had a really, really tough call because of the flick on at the near post. 9 times out of 10, at home, the home team would had got a goal, I guess the linesman bottled it.

However, the other goal was certainly offside. So 2 - 1 would had been the correct score if the linesman had a perfect game, so 'robbed' is a bit of an overstatement. Wolfsburg were decent and I expect them to win the last game and get that second spot.

Disagree with hibbert, distin and eto'o.

How you can put Garbutt, who didnt put a foot wrong all night as equal to hibbert I will never know. Hibbert was laughable in that first half, cringeworthy. He improved slightly as the game went on but I think a rating of 4 is about right.

Eto'o a 7 ?... go and watch the game again. His passing was very very poor and I have to say that had his name been samuel mcgeady, it would of been noticed ! Eto'o was not a 7. Distin was arguably our best defender and with jagielka they were very solid all night long. Distin was extremely good on the ball. A very composed display.

Jags and distin played as well as a pair last night as they have done in months and that's no exaggeration. I hope this display has rekindled their confidence of playing as a pair (with our injuries we need it). Can't speak highly enough of garbutt (gonna be class) and Besic played last night as he did in pre season, which is why we were so excited about the potential the lad has. Kev miralles looked a different player to Saturday, it's amazing how another weeks training has improved his sharpness. Naturally the only downsides were the injury to macca and the performance of perisic If we want him we're gonna have to pay top dollar for him. Imagine him, miralles, Barkley and lukaku in the same team = frightening.

Jags & Distin were absolutely sublime last night.

If we can start getting a few goals again then we are in for a very good season, we are slowly but surely seeing that Martinez is getting that balance between defence and attack spot on.

Mirallas though, love the guy. Always acknowledges the crowd, is one of the players who gets the club and the fans 100%.

We have two new recruits, took 2 of my American colleagues and they loved every second (especially singing USA every time Howard touched the ball :))

I thought Jagielka, Hibbert and Garbutt were outstanding, while Distin and Howard were very strong and didn't make an error.

McGeady should be dropped for a month on that basis of that shocker; he was appalling apart from one or two moments.

Osman was decent, Mirallas was great - missed him so much - while Eto'o was typically intelligent and Lukaku grew into the game.

Eto'o was intelligent? He gave the ball away so easily all night long. In that 1st half alone, off the top of my head, i can think of at least five times where Eto'o passed to a green shirt under no pressure. Extremely sloppy ! What intelligence are you looking at. What game were people watching, christ. But mcgeady was appalling and should be dropped for a month.... jesus tonight.
Going by your logic, Eto'o should be out for the rest of the season.

It wasn't Eto'o's best but I'm still impressed by his patience in hold up play. Our back line was superb with the exception of Perisic and De Bruyne causing trouble down Hibbo's side a few times.

Hibbo did brilliantly in the second half. Yes he was poor in the first half an hour but after that he defended perfectly well. He's let nobody down. Eto'o's passing wasn't his usual best no, but he still held the ball up excellently. Distin yes probably deserved better.

He's let nobody down because of the scoreline. How we got to halftime without conceding is a mystery and it was all down our right.
