VAR

THIS. Been saying this for a season or 2 now. If (big ‘if’), VAR got everything right and eliminated any mistakes, you could maybe make a case for it. But it doesn’t. We all still come away from games moaning about officials.

Footy is unique in that it’s a very low scoring game. Goals are rare and hard to score. That’s why strikers get paid more than everyone else. That why goals are celebrated so crazily, as opposed to a try in rugby, or a basket in basketball, or an ace in tennis.

Taking away the spontaneous joy of a goal, cos people are thinking “I’m not celebrating this, it’ll go to VAR”, is genuinely killing the game.
Totally agree. It doesn’t even matter if it’s a screamer from 30 yards with no one round them as we don’t know if there has been a minuscule shirt tug in the tackle before the assist. I thought it was a blatant pen yesterday. And watching the highlights last night, I was perplexed why it took so long to allow Beto’s goal. It was clearly onside to me. The whole feeling yesterday was one of over fussiness and re-refereeing. The whole buzz of scoring is totally gone for me. I instantly think something will rule it out. I’m not one for conspiracies at all but there felt a definite “narrative” among VAR that they were looking to rule things out rather than in. Personally, I would only have VAR for offsides. Anything else is subjective. That ref was 10 yards away, bang in the heat and flow of the game and gave his decision as a penalty. That should have been that. Why is the opinion of someone else overriding his?

Because yesterday's VAR was rubbish and needs removing and should either be retrained or never be a VAR again.

They don't even get offsides right all the time.

They don't even get offsides right all the time.
That's because offside is now subjective. It used to be straightforward, you were either offside or not,now it's phases of play, who was interfering and who wasn't. The game has become more and more complicated and the officials weren't that great when it was simple! At least they've gone back to sensible handball rules, although not in Europe.

No they won't...they will be patting him on the back last night telling him they could not believe how he got away with being so blatantly corrupt.
He was certainly biased, we could all see our first goal was legit inside 20 seconds, and there was a possible offside and/or foul before their second goal and he cleared it in 10 seconds.

Remember the World Cup in Qatar where they had the technology to decide in seconds?

We have a bunch of insecure bully victims trying to justify their roles using rulers across a none linear pitch, then high fiving themselves for making a clearly controversial decision.

No wonder they don't get invited to the major international tournaments.
Myself think it's worse, this is about EPL keeping Mancs away from relegation and protecting one of its key assets. Like it or not they are financially more important than us at this time.

The sad thing is because we aren't part of the establishment the penalty farce will be brushed under the carpet and not heard of again....if it was other certain clubs it would be the main item on the news and sky sports for weeks, polls, charts etc to explain how hard done to they have been. It absolutely stinks....match fixing in plain sight 😡

Just watched Southampton BHA game on MotD. Jonathan Pearce on commentary says, “he’d probably have got a spot kick if he’d gone down there’.

So on the same weekend, you can not get a penalty for not going down and not get a penalty for going down.

For the record, “going down” has absolutely nothing to do with whether you were fouled or not. It’s not the job of the player being fouled to try to guess what mood the officials are in.

Schroedinger’s rule book.

And yet, the majority of people still go to the matches and have sky sports/tnt subscriptions. As fans, we all moan about football but still feed the machine.
