VAR

I think that was as angry as I’ve been at a football match in a very very long time , the referee’s performance has already got me raging then this penalty .

I was miles away and could see it , I was convinced it was a pen at first sight and when he reversed his decision told anyone who’d listen we’d know it was nailed on the second we saw it replied and to be fair I was a bit wrong as it wasn’t one it was two fouls both of which were a penalty.

I cannot for the life of me understand how it’s reversed , if you think scab clubs don’t get that decision got a bridge to sell you . As for the exaggeration narrative , one it’s irrelevant to the foul (unless your niasse) and secondly I think we perhaps a case first half for one if , and im not sure who it was , had gone down and as he didn’t no issue .

Yesterday was ah absolute disgrace and like you im fuming .

As regards the whole impact of VAR I only half celebrated the Beto opener as you could tell immediately see it was going to VAR. I want to lose myself in the moment , it’s why football grabs us that joy and loss of control . However VAR is robbing us of those moments of uncontrolled excitement and joy and to add to our day it stole 3 points as well .
THIS. Been saying this for a season or 2 now. If (big ‘if’), VAR got everything right and eliminated any mistakes, you could maybe make a case for it. But it doesn’t. We all still come away from games moaning about officials.

Footy is unique in that it’s a very low scoring game. Goals are rare and hard to score. That’s why strikers get paid more than everyone else. That why goals are celebrated so crazily, as opposed to a try in rugby, or a basket in basketball, or an ace in tennis.

Taking away the spontaneous joy of a goal, cos people are thinking “I’m not celebrating this, it’ll go to VAR”, is genuinely killing the game.

Chris Sutton says it’s not a pen and it was the correct use of VAR…

This should be enough for everyone to conclude it was a pen as everyone can universally agree that Sutton chats absolute turd
I love when whoever is next to him, goes and agrees with him. Like they are scared to have their own thoughts

People talking about the exaggerated fall...

He was tripped by Blockhead. This is the angle the ref should have seen. Everton should be all over the PL asking why it wasn't.

Tripped, 2 short pulls, given as a penalty then revoked after var. It's pure corruption.

Didnt actually see the trip. But you can bet they would have came up with Young initiated the contact somehow

Let’s be honest, he absolutely throws himself to the floor in ridiculous fashion.

That being said, once the pen is given, it was incorrect to overturn it because of the shirt pull.

I was at the game yesterday, it took about 5 mins for VAR to give our 1st goal.
I watched MOTD last night to find out what was going on,
It came up on the screens looking for offside, no chance, sorted that in seconds, what was the delay?
They were searching for any possible reason they could disallow the goal but had to concede defeat in the end. Hope that clarifies ;)

we were robbed, not just of a win, but possibly one last big goodison grandstand of a last minute winner against the mancs

could have had the stadium in absolute pandemonium and then harmony singing all the songs in the sunshine

but no, we get VAR pulling apart reasons not to reward the opportunity to score a goal

it’s unequivocally made the game worse, less fun, less enjoyable, less live, hasn’t made it fairer, it creates fouls and offsides that were never there before, it gives opportunity to choose what the officials want, when it should be a snapshot decision without bias

the ref gives a foul because its a foul, he can’t in that moment think of what a united loss might mean, or if theres doubt. he just has to make a decision and thats what football should be

i feel sick at what could have been. may have been my last ever visit to goodison and me and thousands of others have been robbed the memory of a lifetime there
