VAR

The premier league league don't give a hoot about 36 000 Everton legacy fans in a stadium.
It's the millions of glory hunting subscrib£rs from the far flung corners of the globe that are keeping the coffers up.
It's now 100% a business and money talks.
Totally agree, this league is f00ked, corrupt and a money spinner for the likes of sky etc
but isn't that the very reason the new owners wanted this club... for the stadium mainly. Its a business for them, not really about the club, it's concert's, sports events etc.

Things to improve VAR:

  1. Each team has 1 challenge each half, otherwise on field decisions stands.
  2. Them challenges you can have has a time limit of 1 minute (if they still cant decide the on field decision stands)
  3. No ex or present referees as VAR officials, independent team of trained personnel.
  4. VAR only to look at one incident, not offside then when they see its on side they look for a foul somewhere else in the same passage of play.
I think this would be terrible, particularly the last point. It should be simple, VAR just rewatches and sees if they need to intervene for whatever reason. VAR seeing a blatant handball but not bothering to tell the ref because it’s not specifically what he was asked to check would be just about the only way we could make it worse.

Might be controversial, but I think referees deserve every ounce of abuse they get. If they want respect, they have to improve and be accountable.
They do, I don't mind honest mistakes. These aren't honest mistakes, VVD stamps on Onanas ankle no red card, Allan gets sent off for a foul that RS commit almost every game and don't even get booked. VAR has created a situation where, neither referee or VAR officials accept accountability. Was it Ref or VAR officials who decided it should be looked at. There was no clear and obvious error with Tarkowskis goal, they still checked that.

At least 10 clubs are just happy to exist in the premier league. Add in the top 6 and nothing meaningful will change.
It's precisely why RS will win league this season, not because they're great, just because teams like Wolves, West Ham, Brentford, Bournemouth, Brighton, Palace and others are happy to roll over. In the past there was a reasonable reward for getting into UEFA cup, now your playing teams in Kazakhstan, which means nobody's bothered anymore.

You are fully correct about the second half of this post: was it not about 2 or 3 seasons ago Spurs were happy to essentially be kicked out the Europa Conference League under Conte [a trophy they could have easily won] due to some travel issue or covid/availability issue?!? Levy didn't care because they were going for top four at the time and thats a ~£60m pot, which was of more importance to the financial health of the club than a £3m trophy prize. Sad fact of reality that its better for the club/business to finish 10/11/12th than to win the CocaColaCariboCup and finish 17th.

Let’s not pretend it’s just this season. I can remember a lot of outrageous decisions going against the club for a long while now. I know that the club weren’t exactly getting in the box a lot under Dyche

Everton have been joint bottom in penalties awarded in the league since 2022/23
22/23 - 3 awarded
23/24 - 3 awarded
This season we have 1 penalty so far.

So in recent seasons against United VAR has ruled out 2 late winners, a goal by DCL which would've got us a replay in an FA Cup tie and then a clear penalty today but of course it doesn't favour the 'big' teams does it?

Don’t forget when siggy was fouled and was on the floor and moved his legs as DCL scored … was disallowed as it interfered with de gae … even though he could blatantly see the ball the whole way as he reacted to the deflection on DCL shot

How can anyone to do with VAR watch a rugby game and not see what they are doing is ridiculous. Just copy the rugby example. TMO talks to the ref in real time, they chat back and forth and officiate in real time. I guess the major issue is, what is a foul and what is a hand ball. A few seasons back we got a load of pens against for the ball hitting a hand from 2 foot away but now we seem to have all sorts going on and nothing. The examples in the videos above (Keane in the Brighton match) and what we had today is so obviously wrong its painful. How can VAR be justified. The stuff the R/S get away with is insane.

We need ex-pros reffing and doing a rugby style TMO with a precise understanding of a foul and a handball.
