How come VAR didn't give a pen for Shef U? Handball by Ward Prowse, is it because defenders are allowed to handball basically with the stupid new handball rule

Don't think he is, if you pause it when the keeper kicks it he looks like he's right on the edge and just runs in quickly to close down.

He 100% was, Sky showed a still of his foot slightly in the box but they said var can't check restarts so that's why it wasn't reversed even though it should have been a repeat of the goal kick. Bloody ridiculous. Var is pointless.

Ah ok didn't know that. I just had a look at the VAR guidelines and it still somewhat confusing. If sky says they can't check restarts they might be confused with the line that restart decisions cannot be reversed once taken (a goal kick wrongly given can't be turned into a corner once the goal kick is taken).

Plus this line "For factual decisions e.g. position of an offence or player (offside), point of contact (handball/foul), location (inside or outside the penalty area)" surely suggests that Del's positions should have been flagged. Unless that refers to penalties and players who get a rebound after encroaching which is specifically mentioned.

But pretty stupid if you check for encroachment at a penalty if that player becomes involved in play but not from a goal kick where as shown today a goal was scored after a player encroached and became involved.

This forum: Hate VAR, it slows down the game to check for the tiniest infractions that don’t even affect the play

Also this forum: Why didn’t VAR rule out that Watford goal ffs

To be fair, if you’re going to have VAR, you might as well use it and have it be correct. It’s fine to complain about it being slow and it being wrong.
It’s a double hit otherwise, it slows the game down and still gets the wrong decisions.

That’s not a contradiction though.

Like I don’t like it when the police hide in a lay-by to catch people speeding, but seeing as they do it, I would question why they didn’t stop someone if they were clearly speeding.

Just watched the Leicester Spurs game on MOTD. Spurs had a goal disallowed for the most marginal of offside calls. It's not what VAR was supposed to be about in my view. Yes, by the letter of the law the decision may be right, but the delay, the tiny margin, the confusion for players and fans in the stadium?

Shearer suggests making 'clear and obvious' part of the offside rule. I would suggest a slightly different approach borrowing from the implementation of VAR in cricket. To preserve the authority of on field officials I think close offside decisions should be given as 'linesman's call'.

Obviously if a clear and obviously error, the 'daylight' between attacker and defender etc would be overturned, but marginal decisions would give the benefit of the doubt, not to attacker or defender but to the official who watched the event in real time.

The only obvious thing about VAR is its adding to the confusion, no one seems to understand when and what it can be used for and seems to change weekly, and as ive said a million times, its still just a person watching a screen making up what he thinks is right or wrong which will always be subjective-one foul one week will be given while the next week by a different VAR wont etc, it will never be 100% ever-i would have not have had it,and would get rid of it-Refs are scared to do anything probably thinking VAR will help them while at other times VAR is not used when some stuff is so clear

Should have a "team" dedicated to doing this for all clubs. Same people, every week. At least it would be consistent.

And I completely disagree with the disallowed Spurs goal. It's done so arbitrarily. The video isn't clear enough to figure out when the ball is actually released. That goal should have stood.

Just happened in the United game and happened in ours yesterday. A player is clearly offside but the linesman doesn't put his flag up and the defender clears it for a corner. Why doesn't the linesman then put his flag up when play's stopped?
