Valencia Watch

Very surprising downfall from one of the bigger teams in Europe.

As someone closer to it - what's causing it currently? I thought they'd recovered (a bit) in the last few years after the Lims were doing anything they can to eff em up, reaching a cup final and all that. Is it down to personnel, i.e. Corberan being negative, or what's the story over there?

Corberan has instilled a good work ethic but there's isn't the money available from Lim and Co to buy anyone decent. All the money is going towards the new stadium (apparently) the team seem to have been galvanised by the death of Fernando Martin and his children. Just hope they can keep it going. Bit like the Toffees, don't have much depth in the squad.

A Viet Cong friend of mine who follows that lot everywhere says Mestalla is in his top 5 ground for atmosphere etc.,so he has a soft spot for them. My wife (Spanish) hates Valencia slightly less than she hates Real Madrid, so anything kind to be said about them has to be said out of range. Happily for all of us on here, her loathing for the aforementioned clubs pales in comparison to how she feels about the Holepunch Pinkies. She really really really hates them.

So all this having been said, La Liga would be a much better watch with a more competitive Valencia. Not sure how I feel about the new half-built, ground though.

It's been an embarrassing eyesore for a long time, allegedly will be completing in 27/28 but with Lim in charge who knows. The last few games have slightly improved the league position, but it's tight at the bottom next week's visit to Betis it's vital to get at something out of a tricky game. They like Valencia have only lost one of the last five.

I made a point that, due to the imminent closer of the Mestalla, that should Málaga get promoted this season, then I would go over regardless next season.

Málaga are going to go up, and Valencia go down here, arent they?

When I arrived in Spain, the only free football on telly was on the local Valencian language channel, 'Canal Nou'. It's understandable to a degree, but the constant talking up of Valencia CF and talking about Valencia CF while broadcasting matches where they weren't even playing made me hate the club.

Also remember a match there against Athletic Bilbao (my second team). The fans chanting 'España! España! (typical anti Basque chant). Meanwhile, the only two Spanish players in the Valencia team that night were Gaizka Mendieta and Andoni Zubizarreta, two Basque players.

Hope they go out of existence and their new and current stadiums turn into sink holes. nobheads.
