Usmanov

This is a really good question. Much will focus on Usmanov but Kroenke's motivations could be questioned. Either he wants Usmanov out as he's a threat, or maybe he senses Usmanov wants to sell to others and feels he would rather have his shares.

Todays' statement is a setback, but we are further forward than 2 days ago.

A setback in what? Reality matching the imaginary course of events that Evertonians hope will come to pass?

You got to ask why is Kroneke bidding for his shares now?, Usmanov is a dead duck at Arsenal, has no say, Kroneke runs the show.

So what has flushed out Kroneke's bid here?
The chance to take Arsenal private
The chance to list Arsenal in Delaware
The chance to NOT publish accounts
The chance to take as much cash as he wants out of the club in consultancy fees
Amongst other things

Does it matter at what age he started to support them?? He has started and might not want to shift to another team.

Given a chance, would you start following another team??

It does matter though mate at what age, because if your a footy mad person as he is reported as being, then your not gonna wait till 37 to support someone, and if your not footy mad then i doubt the depth of support is gonna be that much.

Saying that he's attended more games for us this season than for Arsenal, once a blue and all that ;)

You could see some Chinese lot, eager to curry favour with their President, being interested. But like you say, if someone wants to actually be an active shareholder, seems unlikely.

Or a Buy to Hold strategy. But north of 1/2 £Billion seems a bit steep for a passive position.

Or another buyer who is less divisive than Usmanov and who the fans over time can galvanise support for a eventual takeover/power share, all things are possible mate

It's an equivalent statement. As I said speculation would continue until Usmanov commented on the speculation which he has.

Some general points from the statement;

1) Why mention his valuation of the club? The fact he's said is 2 billion is his way of saying "my valuation of my shares is £600 million". In that context Kroenke's offer is not a low ball offer but below what Usmanov feels they are worth. I said well before he released that statement he would be looking for closer to 700 million for them. I didn't think he would accept the offer of £525 million.

2) The last statement is also unnecessary. It's also a change of tact from previous statements. Going from "I will never sell" to "I will only sell to the right person" is backtracking. We can argue about the extent or significance of the backtracking, but not that it exists.

3) Perhaps the most important element thats not been discussed. What of Kroenke? What has motivated him to buy the shares? Will he just give up on this?
I would speculate that he is sensing Usmanov is going to agitate more and become more of a problem. That he is going to be more public in criticism and he needs to lose that problem. That feeling will not go away. The question is whether he feels it's worth another 75 million pounds to meet Usmanov's valuation.

I don't think these developments have moved Usmanov further away from us at all. It is certainly further away than it was 12 hours ago, but much closer than 2 days ago.

A very sensible logical and well thought out deconstruction of Usmanovs statement.

And as such is out of place on this forum lol

Mr Usmanov obviously likes options and he has carefully made sure he still has as many as possible to choose from.

However it does not appear he would sell to Kroenke, unless he is bluffing to extract the maximum amount of cash from the american, in which case he would not be a man of honour after that spiel about protecting the fans of the club. (Presumably he means from Kroenke?)

It is obvious given the choice he would buy Arsenal but from the outside it looks like he has started a countdown to how long he will persist in doing so. By saying he might sell to someone who would equally get on Kroenke's nerves gives Stan a warning that he may have to bite the bullet and do whatever it takes to get all the shares quickly. The natives in North London are only going to get more restless and that can only aid Usmanov or another investor who buys his stake if he does sell.
