It's widely off topic on the thread really anyways (my fault in large part) but grouping all the Oligarchs togetehr is too simple, Usmanov made a large amount of his wealth pre soviet collapse (in contrast to say Abramovich, Deripaska, Khodorkovsky and several others who went from almost nothing to obscene amounts by being part of Yeltsins inner circle), and who almost to a man did so by complete exploitation of the desperate state the average Russian was left in - being given shares etc in a company only to then not get paid and being effecitvely forced to seel those shares for rock bottom prices to a select group of what are now called oligarchs - in order to survive.T
The mess following the collapse of the soviet union is precisely what the oligarch class in Russia built their fortunes on. That some of them now redistribute tiny fractions of the wealth they accumulated in that period does not, in my opinion, mitigate the damage done to the average Russian in that period. Hence my reservations regarding the Usmanov links. You are unconcerned about them and so are the majority of GOT posters, I'm sure we'll all manage to get along anyway. Owners come and go, my loyalty to my club goes beyond the current custodian and questioning the motives and ethics of the higher ups is an important part of a free society and keeps those individuals, in part at least, on the straight and narrow.
Genuine question: are there any other training grounds sponsored? Apart from Mickey Mouse's Clubhouse Melwood

IF, its more a question of who would buy them. The shares that is.
Kronke wont.
Aw hell nah.
Think the problem is terry, whoever bought Usmanov's shares would have to be willing to not have a seat on the Arsenal board, or any say in the running of the club.
Fair enough. I'm not at all convinced he's even coming here anyway, so all of this may be completely moot.It's widely off topic on the thread really anyways (my fault in large part) but grouping all the Oligarchs togetehr is too simple, Usmanov made a large amount of his wealth pre soviet collapse (in contrast to say Abramovich, Deripaska, Khodorkovsky and several others who went from almost nothing to obscene amounts by being part of Yeltsins inner circle), and who almost to a man did so by complete exploitation of the desperate state the average Russian was left in - being given shares etc in a company only to then not get paid and being effecitvely forced to seel those shares for rock bottom prices to a select group of what are now called oligarchs - in order to survive.
Usmanov during that time expanded his wealth considerably and influence - but unless i'm mistaken not by the same actions - buying up of the workers vouchers/shares in the companies, and also did so by a large amount of 'punts' in foreign companies and the tech market which then exploded and brought him the obscene amount of wealth he has now.
and the actions when he was given the remit to 'get back' what was stolen from Gazprom can only be seen as a excpetionally good thing for the Russian people mate
Is he an angel - absolutely not, not one succesful businessman during that time period could possibly have survuved being one, but in the scale of the Russian oligarchs he is by a long shot the worst of them, maybe i'm biased as i do believe he has done a lot of good for a host of causes through donations - a large amunt of them to grass root sporting initiatives as well, and i do think the media slant in the west is very biased against him in comparrision with ones who happened to be more 'western friendly' and who in truth where amonst the worst exploiters of the people.
Anyway way off topic - just a sore point for me the way certain thigns are seen far too black and white.

...spent 6 years in jail but released early after it was found he was wrongly imprisoned for fraud. A very interesting life;
