If you've ever watched a veteran and gifted athlete move about the field, there is an economy of motion in their stealth. Foxes share this with cats, and frankly surpass them, since they less of sit-and-pounce-predators than cats (though they do pounce). I once watched a fox pursue a squirrel. The fox moved about like a 40-year-old Mario Lemieux (if you follow hockey)...pure wisdom and anticipation. Meanwhile, the squirrel was frenetic, uncalculated, and frankly inelegant. Though to be fair the squirrel was running for its life, not its dinner. But as far as predators go, foxes are unmatched in their guile, their cleverness, and their adaptability. It is an eternal sh_t-shame that they are viewed as a nuissance. They like to eat the same things we do (e.g., chicken). Who can blame them? And for that they are hunted. Bummer.
