Works for some, not for others really. But then who would turn down three years of government funded sexual experimentation fuelled by cheap alcohol?

Not me and I had a great time. i then did something that had no connection with my rather pointless degree but what the hell.

I have two totally contrasting tales of Uni!

My degree course completed at Uni of Wolverhampton was ok, but I never really got into the whole uni atmopshere/ethos thing, perhaps because it was on my doorstep and I already had my set of mates in the area. And of course, anything that was going on at the weekend at Uni went for a Burton because of going to the game.

After my degree, I decided to go into teaching and completed my training at Newman University in Birmingham. I had an amazing time, and even though I was still living at home, made a number of friends compared to UoW!

From my experience it is more about the atmosphere created in the uni, rather than where it is based or the course that is offered that will affect your experience!

PHWOAR. Really?

ponders career path*

Imagine the scene....a streetwise 27 year old swaggers through the crowded Union Bar at Saturday midnight. He's cocksure off the back of a day spent playing football and refreshed by a few snakebite and blacks (when in Rome and all that....only £1 after all).

She's there dancing with her friends to some cheesy tosh you'd forgotten all about in your youth. He saunters over to her, she smiles, he moves closer and blam it's on.

They end up back in a cab and pile into her room at halls. What happens happens.

He gets up, leaves the room and walks down the other end of the hall and into his bedroom. This is their first week at university; she gets very awkward and they do't really speak again for the remainder of the first year...quite a problem when they share a kitchen.

Warning kids. Don't [Poor language removed] on your doorstep....at least not until exam time

That said, it was an awesome time and I was lucky enough to make some good long term friends....who can all drink me into oblivion as they're all 10 years younger and have no sense of what happens when you get past 35.

Graduated from Uni July 21st...

Started a fantastic job relating to my degree August 3rd...

Didn't take any loans out cause I made enough money through music to pay for myself...

100% winner, me.

This, for me. Congratulations on having the ace start off - hope it works out for you.

Was a long time ago, for me. Beware that debt, youngsters. It's a scorpion. If you're in the US, be very aware that school loans are not eligible for forgiveness under current bankruptcy law as the rest of your debt might be. You can't escape it.

Fortunately for me at the time, bands had horn sections and I was working per service with the Symphony, because it wasn't a full-time orchestra like it is now. Don't know if I could make it now as a music major. I'll note I went back almost 20 years later, paid my own way, and got a major in Computer Science. Still, when I'm asked what my first language was, I reach in my bag and pull out a piece of score paper.

For me, going to university was the BEST damn thing I've ever done. It made me into the person that I am today - more confident, not afraid to air my opinion, reinforced my passion for food and made me certain that I wanted to teach.

There was no question about the debt that I would get into, it never did, never has and never will bother me. I take great pride in saying that I have a degree - with Brian May's Signature on it non the less! :P

I will encourage anyone to go to University - it really is a life changing experience :)

Yeah I didn't think so. But did sales of your songs on itunes increase at all? Or did they not really advertise it?

It wasn't really advertised so I doubt it.

Not that it bothers me, it wasn't meant as a sales exercise, just a sweet deal that our manager was able to pull off.
