Underwhelming Everton players that you loved #3: Mikel Arteta Mk II.

You've just turned your argument as to why you're saying he was shiite back on yourself. As you're saying that the reason that he played like a crab is that he had nothing in front of him to hit, which can't be his fault can it?

You're right, but as mentioned in the article when he played wide left at Newcastle (and therefore higher up the pitch) he completely dominated the game.

It just baffled me that a creative player in such poor personal form would be chucked in at defensive mid each week, we surely needed him higher up the pitch creating chances, Moyes set his teams out wrong in that respect but Mikel didn't help himself either, any hungry player would have grabbed the game by the balls but he chose it upon himself to amble around the centre circle playing crab passes.

Wenger's playing him in the same placs as Moyes did btw, so that's 2 top drawer managers that obviously need your advanced footballing insight mate.

He works at Arsenal though 'cause he's the base of their attack, since they have players like Podolski, Walcott and Cazorla doing the business up the field.

We had Cahill & Saha who couldn't create a bloody spreadsheet, hence why we needed Arteta playing further up.

He was played deep instead, hence why we suffered.

Said this about 100 times ffs.

&& calling Moyes a top drawer manager is fresh, what with all those trophies he's won.

He lost half a yard after his injury & he was never that quick to start with, so he naturally moved inside (where he wanted to play himself)

He moved inside well before his injury and looked the absolute mutts nutts(cos I can't swear).

Pienaar was playing like a beaut during this period too, didn't play in any of our league wins that season until Spurs, a week before he moved there.

Bad, bad times.

It wasn't just how bad he was during regular play - it was how bad his set pieces went as well. He barely ever beat the first man on a corner for a good 12 months.

It's like everything that he did well turned into dust overnight.

he was playing inside before the injury, plenty of muppets like to put down our turnaround in form that season to a tackle by the traffic director, in truth moving Mikel to the centre turned us around, playing some of the best football I'd ever seen from an everton player, was up there with any CM in the league before that fateful day at St James

By Arteta's own admission he is the 'pivote' midfielder Moyes allowed him to be during the final stages of his Everton career.

For one reason or another it did not work. i'd like to think it was because the rest of the team just weren't capable of playing the type of football that relies on the use of such a player.

I can't call Arteta an underwhelming player for Everton though, in my opinion he opened our minds to the type of sexy football we play at the moment.

He's the type of player who would flourish in this current side I believe, in much the same way Leon Osman has, playing more centrally, with Fellaini ahead of him, backed up by Darron Gibson.

Ffs. The title is Mikel Arteta MK II.

He means in the last season or so when he was playing gash.

We all know that overall Mikel was amazing and we all still love him. Read the title before being baby wah wah's about it being harsh.

Arteta was ACE!! still is with arsenal too...

Yes had a bad spell with us near the end but I seriously don't think that was all his fault...

This thread needs removing.

Even when he was 'the crap' he was still one of our better players and rarely lost possession. Kept things ticking over, just didn't have the quality around him that we have now.

Wish he was still here, we would be even more awesome. Will always love the guy

Every free kick and corner had his name written on it and for his last season every single one seemed to hit the first man!!!
