"I feel like a bit of a [Poor language removed] placing the words "Mikel Arteta" and "underwhelming" in the same sentence, but in many ways like Tim Cahill...his last 12 months as an Everton player were unfortunately complete pish."

Come on man, I've made it clear with the title and the text within that i'm referring to his woeful last year with us, and not the man as a whole.

He just doesn't fit with your underwhelming players theme, which so far has been really good, but you've shot the wrong rabbit here, an Italian advance is called for ;)

He was pyar underwhelming though.

Would Gibson and him work d'you think?

Was down to rubbish around him. He was always class. Proven it at Arsenal where he has been brilliant. He was a maestro whose skills, towards the end, went unappreciated by morons. Still remember the bluekipper threads calling for him to be sold. £10 million was daylight robbery.

Has he though? He's been ok like but he's hardly set the world on fire.

He was Poor the last 18 months at least, yeh he had good games in that time but over that period he was a bit of a let down.Hasn`t improved Arsenal either i don`t think. He was brilliant at times for Everton though and i appreciate that.

That's why it was right for him to go, he's ace in that deeper role where he just keeps possession and recycles easy balls to the likes of Cazorla, Walcott, Podolski, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Wilshere & Giroud etc...

Playing in a deep role at Everton when you've got Saha, Heitinga & Cahill in front of you is never going to work, he needed to be the fulcrum of our midfield attack and instead he was played as a holding mid for months on end.

Baffling from all concerned.

You've just turned your argument as to why you're saying he was shiite back on yourself. As you're saying that the reason that he played like a crab is that he had nothing in front of him to hit, which can't be his fault can it?

He should never have moved from the right of midfield. He was absolutely ace there, drawing countless fouls and providing ****loads of assists for Sir Timothy of Cahill. Massive mistake putting him into the crab position, and even worse keeping him there when we had no right winger anyway and everybody apart from Moyes knew he was more effective there.

I remember a masterful dual performance from Arteta and Cahill in a night game against Arsenal a few years back. Cahill scored his 100th league goal it was a brilliant moment, when we had to play him as an auxiliary foward, a role I personally thought he excelled in. Great game. Shame it was spoiled by that horrible [Poor language removed] Van Persie's 94th minute equaliser.

His heart weren't in it after his injury.

He used to stick a tackle in and get all round the pitch. From that Blackburn game onwards he barely stopped strolling round the centre circle passing to Baines. It was sad really.

He lost half a yard after his injury & he was never that quick to start with, so he naturally moved inside (where he wanted to play himself)

Wenger's playing him in the same placs as Moyes did btw, so that's 2 top drawer managers that obviously need your advanced footballing insight mate.
