….certainly an argument for the Central League model. Squad players who were not involved in first team game would play along with those returning from injury and a mix of youngsters.
Terrific opportunity for young players to play open-age football with and against seasoned professionals. The introduction of multi-subs and the preference to keep youngsters in age restricted groups was the end for it.
It wasn’t just Central League, I saw internationals like Bracewell, Van den Hauwe, Jamie Redknapp and Molby coming back from injury and playing in Lancashire League games in ‘80s. As an aside Molby was particularly brilliant playing with and advising those youngsters, it was a masterclass.
All rivalry aside I thought Molby was a fantastic footballer, big rumours during HKs second stint he was coming to us,unfortunately not!!Confession time here,oh Moyesey I have sinned

I was actually stood in the deep end the night they beat Man U in the league cup,it was an absolute belter of a goal by fat Jan,the only defence I can possibly put forward for my case is I was trying to “get into”(1980s jargon

)a young RS lady I had met and gave it the big one as to I’d sort out tickets, horrific evening for me and no I didn’t “get into her”

serves me damn right I guess.
