I think that until we’re in Europe we essentially need one GK, a backup who is truly a backup, 7 defenders, 4 deeper midfielders, 5 attacking midfields/wingers and two strikers. Anything beyond that isn’t getting used, and even in this breakdown you probably aren’t taking guys anyway.
A squad of 20, as light as id suggest is healthy is 22.
Taking out King and Tryer - as insurance training buddies.
Aznou and Patterson (largely injured)
We arent far off either.
Everyone else has played and id suggest will.
Also id argue proabably more key then size - id suggest is realistic quality, we've had bigger squads then this one, but with less quality or potential and as such less availability so in fact smaller despite greater number numbers. For example players like Sandro, Bolaise, Kean, Maupay, Holgate, Walcott, Gbamin, Dele, Tosun, Gomes (in part), Besic, Rondon - to name but a few have all been part of bigger Everton squads, but lacked the quality really to be active playing choices - or to called upon to change a game.
You could have a squad of 30 like ones with the players above, but have a more active squad with 20 better quality and more options.
On that score im very comfortable with a Grealish, Illy and Dibling triad, as opposed to say McNeill, Harrison and Lindstorm.
