2025/26 Tyler Dibling

Personally think, we had top targets, when we couldn't get them we went for youth who will develop, which is Tyler and one of two others. Know for a fact we went for Paulinha as choice 1 and Soucek choice 2, for the Rohl slot as another example. We were turned down a fair bit last summer tbh - so opted for youth.

Its Grealsih i really reflect on, was he really needed and has it been that good a signing - im not convinced personally. But look Moyes wanted experience.

Either way i think the bar is now Greaslih and Illy, so if Tyler wants a slot he needs to be or get to that level, i think he even has a job to take McNeill out of the equation in terms of experience.

Overall its a good problem to have, we need to invest and get used to having a squad. Having the luxury of being able to blood young players in and out and let them grow is something we haven't had in years - the time may come when Jack goes back City, Illy goes back to the left and we have Tyler a year longer in the tooth acclimatised and comes straight in. All a good news story in my opinion.
There’s always this talk about having a squad but frankly until we’re in Europe again a squad of 17 or 18 guys that you actually use is plenty and some of the players further down the list still won’t play much.

Anyway spending 40m on a guy who doesn’t play is bad business for Everton. There’s just no way to justify that for us. We could have found a similar level prospect around Europe for half the price if all we needed from the player this season was to sit on the bench and play for a few weeks when Ndiaye is gone.

I’m not fully against signing someone like Dibling but it would probably be smarter for the club to not spend as much on anyone as they did here until we’re competing in Europe again.

I think Jack was just as much TFG as Moyes.

Jack was their statement signing, the Tom Brady to our club, but instead of being cringe, they brought in a local footballing idol.

I do to mate, it had there MO all over it and with the new ground and recovering the club i can see the commercial part of it to.

From a pure football fans perspective i love watching him play.

But with a cold clinical head on - is he really worth 200k+ a week to us.........im not so sure, certainly not going into the long term.

Disagree to be honest mate.

We lost significant points over the last few seasons, by teams below our turnover level and smaller from an infrastructure point of view, who could change a game by bringing on 5 subs in the PL when we couldn't.

This we know.

Its not like we are carrying a squad of 30-35 players - like the CL clubs.

Great player, silly money.

You hand that out to 1 player, what does it do to the rest of the squad or future signings.

I honestly dont see the difficulty people have with Dibling not playing if I'm honest, Ndiaye and Grealish are the bar, if hes beyond that bar or the other two drop below it - he's in. If not,, he's not.

Its a good problem to have, this is exactly where we want to be.

Last year the bar was Jack Harrison.
I think there's a rather big issue that we aren't giving any minutes to our most expensive signing of the summer.

I'm not arsed he isn't starting, I'm arsed he isn't playing at all.

I worry we are a month or two away from "Dibling hasn't settled and is homesick" article fishing for a move back. You can't imagine he's pleased with this.

We have subs right now and aren’t using them. We don’t need a bigger squad. We need a manager who uses the squad he has.

Said weeks ago, if were not prepared to play him / he’s deemed not ready, he should have been left at Soton for the season, either as a loan to reduce the buying price or just not bought him when we did.
I certainly don’t recall there being any stories about rivals for his signature at the time.

Whatever noise about his signing there is now, will be amplified many times over if he still can’t get in ahead of McNeill when the AFCON is on.

Disagree again mate. With the turnover I the summer with contracts ending and a lack of investment in the squad for years.

The squad definitely needed investing in.

Who said we needed a bigger squad? We were
talking about having a quality squad.

Essentially what you are saying here is we shouldn’t have the high quality replacements (or those with the potential to have that ceiling developmentally) as possible in the squad to call upon.

I think that until we’re in Europe we essentially need one GK, a backup who is truly a backup, 7 defenders, 4 deeper midfielders, 5 attacking midfields/wingers and two strikers. Anything beyond that isn’t getting used, and even in this breakdown you probably aren’t taking guys anyway.
