In 2022, Dibling - who had been with Southampton since he was eight - moved to Chelsea. But he only stayed at Stamford Bridge for six weeks.
Chelsea had watched Dibling for years before being able to sign him at 16, yet he encountered problems immediately.
He was unable to play and train with his new team-mates as Chelsea abided by the Premier League's five-step review process, an investigation used during transfers for academy players before they can be registered to ensure everything is above board with the move.
While his new team-mates went to win a pre-season tournament in Germany in the summer of 2022, strengthening their bond, Dibling was training alone with a coach.
That isolation was a large reason for him struggling to settle and the clubs were still in negotiations over a fee when Dibling made his desire to return to Southampton clear after just six weeks.
Homesick, he was desperate to go back to Saints.
He confided in academy coach Jeremy Newton about how he was feeling following a game against Southampton Under-18s.

Can you imagine how good Pienaar would have been with no fullback overlapping him and giving him an option.

We don’t have lightening quick wingers, we need fullbacks who make runs and take defenders away or it’ll be much easier to stop them.

Whether it's Coleman, O'Brien or Mykolenko, we are absolutely lost in that position. To me it actually looks like Moyes has given up on them joining in the attack. Almost better for them to just stay out the way.

He did show for every ball.

In possession, he was negative but a lad like that you have to nurture confidence.

He's getting the ball with O'Brien behind him and no balance whatsoever in and around him.

As I say, setting him up to fail.

Played in his normal position with our first choice right back behind him, a number 10 in Alcaraz next to him, and a £30mill striker in front of him.

He didn't run past anyone, cross a ball, be a threat or attack much. He was neat and tidy, wanted the ball but looked every bit an academy style player.

Fundamentally hes exactly what i thought he would be. We've paid £40mill for a player in a couple of years time.

Would be concerned when Ndiaye goes to thr AfCON if he's going to be the replacement.

Absolutely hilarious watching O'Brien just stand 20 yards back when our winger has the ball being marked by 2 men.

Again though, hes our first choice RB.

I would rather have kept Dibling on tonight and would have substituted Iroegbunam instead if I were in Moyes' position. From there, I would have played Ndiaye alongside Beto and pushed Dewsbury-Hall back alongside Garner. This would have made for a dangerous attack and could have bought Ndiaye closer to the Wolves goal. That being said, I would not have substituted Alcaraz for Dewsbury-Hall as I thought Alcaraz looked threatening in the number ten role and did not appear to be our main issue in attack.

Dibling made a couple of good runs in the first half in addition to at least two defensive clearances. I think he could cause opponents problems in the long-term and he was clearly more threatening than McNeil tonight.

He’s still getting up to speed after missing most of his pre-season. Also playing without a full-back really. Think he’d be better centrally to start.

I saw him beat 3 wolves players in a row. That's all I've wanted to see since he got here.

We can be patient with him. It's the striker situation and what's going on with Aznou that worry me more.

Bring him on to keep the ball or win a free kick when 2-0 up and he’ll look great.

Start him or bring him on in a game we need to score in and he looks (at the minute) completely lost. He’s clearly got ability but needs to look to actually do something.

It's about where on the field you take risks though.

Needs to do more when he’s given the opportunity.

Should have took the game by the scruff of the neck tonight, kids got ability, needs to back himself and commit defenders then deliver the final ball, thought even illy and Jack struggled with that after they come on.

It's only September and he's shown more in each game he's played in, so going by that he should be pretty comfortable by Afcon..

Needs to strengthen, bulk up and increase speed over distance. Was getting passed easily when tracking and when he'd get close was easily brushed off. Should have closed down the space for the cross for goal.
Still a ways to go against the bigger boys. Should be thankful for having JOB behind.
