The huge amount of money spent on him means the pressure is on immediately. I mentioned it at the time, he'd have to hit the ground running. Well, we've had a 40m player sitting on the bench and he got his first start tonigjt. I thought he done ok. ok won't cut it at the minute though

He's getting the ball with O'Brien behind him and no balance whatsoever in and around him.

He's not ready yet. Which is concerning since we spent so much money on him. But it's not his fault either and he deserves patience.

He needs to try and be more brave on the ball. He's not been brought here to cut inside and pass back to the defenders.

What will make him ready? A loan? More time dribbling round the lesser spotted Aznou at FF?

Not having a go, I fully agree. But in this situation, what on earth does a team like us do to make him “ready”? We can’t loan him after paying that and not buying a second winger. We can’t play him, because he does not play well (scorching hot take after one game I know). Giving him games with the kids isn’t the done thing anymore and would be seen as demeaning.

Do we just wait?? Hope he finds some readiness in a Happy Meal?? Much easier for teams who have games against dross in the early rounds of European comps, or are strong enough to batter teams in cups whilst blooding youngsters.

Possibly naive and arrogant to think we are in a position to help any young player develop at this moment. Maybe a year too early for us. Might be the same for Barry, but I’ve no idea how he can not be “ready”. Other teams lob players like him straight into the no9 shirt and they score and smile. We are terrified of him crying it seems, as he nearly did tonight.

Also, Dibling is hugely talented with a ball at his feet. But he has to be effective. John McGinn is not hugely talented, nor he is fast, and he’s annoying, but he bloody knows how to be very effective for his team. Can we teach effective??

The opportunity is there for him to get plenty of game time over the season. Who knows how it will pan out but there’s no reason he can’t develop here.

Honestly I think the correct thing to do would have been to sign someone else for less money who had more pace and was the profile we needed.

Spending over 40m on him when he's clearly a development signing was a bad decision

But none of that is Tylers fault so he deserves patience and support.

Can you imagine how good Pienaar would have been with no fullback overlapping him and giving him an option.

We don’t have lightening quick wingers, we need fullbacks who make runs and take defenders away or it’ll be much easier to stop them.

I didn't think he was that bad tonight. Played sensible balls, showed some good close control and had obviously been told to work back (which was something he had a rep for not doing so well at Southampton). A safe performance for a manager who appreciates players he can rely on. You can't blame him for drifting out of the game when he isn't getting the ball on the wing. And O'Brien, as willing as he is, is not a proper right-back.
