Absolutely this. Bale was 19 and a left back when he was sold to Spurs. They obviously saw his potential but he didn't become the astonishing winger we now remember for 2 or 3 seasons after. 'Appy 'Arry converted him iirc.

They were also very close to letting him go the Forest for 5mil a year or so after he signed

No way this is happening and at that price it shouldn’t.

Look abroad there is much better value for money

This one will happen. Story isn't going away, we want the player, player wants us and Southampton need to sell.

They've made an absolute mess of the negotiation (ex 777 guy negotiating for them, what a surprise) and now they're trying to get this deal over the line without letting anyone see the egg all over their face.

I think it ends up with us signing dibling after they walk down their demands, in which case I think we will have played a blinder.
