As a lawyer all I can say is you would be surprised. Changing the financial terms of a deal might has a knock on implication on everything else that the club plans to do for the duration of the deal. Running a football club is a complicated business and all financial commitments need to be thought through and modelled. Especially with PSR.

Has all the hallmarks of a club (Southampton) isolating their wantaway player until the transfer window closes, who then in turn magically reintroduce them to the squad after the fact and try to pretend like nothing happened. Worked for Leeds with Gnonto..

Not confident this happens as I dont really believe that Southampton give off the vibe that they'll be climbing down any time soon.
