Transfer Rumour Tyler Dibling

I would walk away from negotiations if Southampton are demanding too high a fee upfront. We would run the risk of somebody else coming in for him, but we can also hope that Southampton may cave and agree to our terms.

I still maintain that this is quite a risky transfer. Dibling has demonstrated that he is a player with some potential, but to be paying such a high fee for a 19-year-old feels incredibly risky to me.

It's an easy but brainless reply for people to bring out the 'he came from a relegated team' criticism, rather than focusing on the individual.

Like you said, apart from perhaps Pickford due to his potential, nobody would have probably claimed that either of the three would become so significant.

Put simply, I trust Moyes in these matters over fans on here.
I remember the fume when he signed Gana for something like 7m 🀣

He gave us his best years, we got 30m for him off psg then he gave us additional really good age defying years after winning some medals!

I think what concerns me is whether we are being played.

Presumably the club were given encouragement by Southampton that a deal could be agreed at a certain figure. That’s why they’ve pivoted from their initial targets.

We’ve gone from Β£27 million to Β£40 million in a week.

I mean, I don’t know what discussions took place with them previously, but you would have thought we were told Southampton were open to doing business at a reasonable figure (and Β£40 million sounds very reasonable).

With Ornstein saying they will probably reject Β£40 million, and with United, Newcastle and Villa in the wings, it does worry me that once we reach agreement, we will be gazumped.

What happens then, we spend Β£50m on him, does anyone truly believe in 2 or 3 seasons time we'll be selling him for Β£70m, Β£80m, Β£90m?

If that was his true potential another team would have already picked up well ahead of us.
That's the spirit. There's no point buying anyone because if they were any good they wouldn't come to us and someone would have bought them already. We may as well just dissolve the club. πŸ˜‚

I will admit that I was unhappy with the Gana Gueye transfer when we initially signed him, then he became one of my favourite players who I was sad to see leave. We need to be looking at a long-term replacement for him this summer, especially considering that we never replaced him when he left for PSG.

Pickford and Tarkowski are two other examples of fantastic signings we have made from relegated sides.

It is a risky situation, but I trust Moyes in these situations because usually he can sniff out a player, and he also now has support behind the scenes.

Speculate to accumulate is the phrase that comes to mind here, and if Villa and co. are looking at him, then we need to perhaps pay a little bit more.

Ernest Nuamah is back training with Lyon after his ACL. He might need a full season to get back to his best but Dibling also needs a season to develop. I’d put in the first bid we made for Dibling to Lyon who have to sell players to comply with the French Football Federation rules. Same agency as Dibling (and Barry!).
Buying a player that has only just recovered from ACL surgery is the wildest suggestion I've heard all window.

I trust Moyes' judgement on his ability, as well as his ability to develop him, yet I still harbour doubts over whether this is the wisest signing we could make. When the news first broke of us making a bid for him, the player who came to mind for me was Moise Kean, a player who we paid too much for at such an early stage of his career.

Should Dibling join us, I think his time here could go either way: we will either make a large profit on him or he will flatter to deceive. I trust that Moyes can develop him into a Β£100m player, however.

It all depends on how well we have scouted his future. If you have the money(The Friedkins do), and you KNOW the player will be worth 70m in a few years then how much you spend doesnt really matter. 30m vs 42m doesnt really matter in that case(obviously 65m wouldnt be worth it). If you are really good at scouting future potential and you are convinced one kid is THE one, you make it happen.

Of course if you are wrong you lose. So its all up to the talent evaluator.
