TV Series

Just got back to watching Red Dwarf again on Netflix, forgot how brilliant it was.

Seen that episode the other day about the wax androids, the Cat and Dave are in the jail cell talking about “Winnie the Pooh refusing the blindfold”, proper funny.

Have you read any of the books ?

If you`re a fan you`ll absolutely love them.

Loads of references to Liverpool, as Grant and Naylor both went to Uni in Liverpool and lived around Sefton Park / Toxteth.

The third to sixth season were genius. Great stories, clever science and some standout episodes like "Gunmen of the Apocalypse", "Bodyswap", "Polymorph" etc.

In the late 60s (68?) I was at the last night of the old Aigburth Arms, the one before the one, before the one Lister speaks of.
Along with a lad whose dad used to run the Lamb in Wavertree.
We all 'acquired' those square tin trays and gave it the full mule train with sound effects and a few cut heads

Thats all I remember, was a good night.

brilliant..have heard a few things are wrong tho...such as the miners working naked

They did take clothes off, it is just to what extent and there is varying reports of this. Of course dramatic licence has been used in various places, such as the helicopter crash, which instead of crashing because of radiation, it hit a crane and this was months later than portrayed in the show. Nothing seems to be too outlandish though.

absolutely..i particularly liked that they used one actress to portray a group of people and explained this at the end of the show

Yes it's good that they are honest about it, you can see why they did it also as if there was 10/12 people (in reality there was more) you just wouldn't have cared as much when it came to the interactions. I suppose one of the big fibs in the story is that Legasov and Shcherbina were not at the trial but again it makes a neat ending that they were.

Of the things that they left out that I feel it would have enhanced the story if they had shown it was the May 1st International Solidarity of Workers parade in Kiev. Apparently they tried to stop the celebrations but they were ordered to carry on but the wind was blowing in from Chernobyl and everyone out that day would have had at least double of what is the maximum a nuclear power plant engineer is allowed in a year. It is also less harmful to have it absorbed over a period of time and everyone out that day got it over the course of an afternoon.

Any word on what happened to them (if anything)...

In Fukushima the radiation levels can go extremely high but tourist buses are allowed in the area and no-one has been affected. Obviously with geiger counters showing vast radiation levels also...

Yes...

...in terms of any Ukrainians making statements or being interviewed about the time of the disaster.

Since they and Russia arent getting on thesedays...i would have assumed anything the Ukrainians could put on Russia would be out in the media.
