TV rights deals, hastening a breakway (Euro) League?

Nah the prem being formed wa sall about money mate, just they didn't and no one expected the increase to go to these insane levels, but the driving force was initially about profit masquerading as trying to create a fairer less governed by nobheads league

Money was a driver, obvs, but not the only one. Forest broke the transfer record at least once well before the PL, for example. Money was in the game, but it was run badly, in the opinion of the Big 5. The PL even offered the League a decent share of future TV deals, which they famously turned down.

Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool, United, and Everton collectively wanted more control and influence over the commercial side, and the organisational side, of a league. They needed another 17 or 19 clubs to make that happen, hence the collective route they offered.

Aye mate, but the badly run element in reality was the financial side of it, the big 5 back then realised how much money could be made if they took a bit more of a control in the structure - hence the premier league, Although subsequently Everton acted like they hadn't a clue as we seemed to push for it then do nothing about taking advantage of it, Arsenal obviously benefited hugely - as Dein i believe was the main driver of the entire idea

I can see it happening, and the likelihood is that the bottom 2-3 teams in the 'Euro super league' would get relegated back to their home leagues and the champions of that countries' league would get promoted.

If you are champions of your league but the relegation places were not occupied by a same country team then crack on and keep trying to be champions and wait for a spot to open up for you.

So basically, crap Turkish/Scottish side gets relegated, crap Turkish/Scottish side gets promoted.

If any Euro league gets off the ground, not a chance would they want relegation. And anyrate, the other leagues/UEFA would have to sanction it. Otherwise, it would be the equivalent of Celtic joining the PL, and Hull replacing them in the SPL

Say England want 6 spots,
then Spain, Germany and Italy would want 4 (min)
France 3,
Thats a league of over 20 teams before you've considered any other countries.
Portugal, Turkey, holland would want 2 places
and then a ton of Countries would want 1 place.
The only way you could get any UEFA approval would be a two tier league with 40 teams and that seems daft.
And if they break away without UEFA approval, their players risk international exclusion.
It's a non starter.

I feel as though English teams are on the Cusp of European domination again with the 'big six' all finally getting their act together. I can see a scenario where we start to have 3 semi finalists happening again in the next couple of years. It is the big clubs from the other leagues in Europe that need a European super league to level the playing field with the PL. the EPL just needs to hold firm and any attempt to break away without English clubs would fail.
