Trevor Steven appreciation thread

Superb player. Another underrated and under used by the eternally stupid ingerlund set up. Complete package of a player as he had the work rate and end product to go with the flair.

When he was at Rangers a mate of mine told me that Graham Souness had said something along the lines of 'England must have a hell of a midfield if Trevor Steven can't get into the team'
I remember the 86 world cup when our tournament came alive after Steven and Reid were introduced. Even then it took injuries and suspensions for this to happen. Still can't believe Bracewell didn't even make the squad.

Even when we were the best team in Europe our players were getting overlooked by the England manager.

Tricky was one of my favourite ever players. Helps that he was part of our most successful ever team I suppose. He was part of an incredibly well balanced midfield four.

I think if we had never been graced by the holy trinity, then that 4 man midfield to Sheedy, Reid, Bracewell and Steven would rightly have been hailed as our finest midfield ever! When you consider what Howard paid for them too??? Frightening!

McMahon was on £300 per week at Everton, at the same time David Johnson and Adrian Heath were on £900 per week, I
believe Howard Kendall offered Stevie a paltry rise which Stevie didn't accept, maybe Howard wanted to sell McMahon in
order to get the money to buy Trevor Steven, I know there was no love lost between Stevie and Howard.
I used to go for a beer with Steve when I lived in Singapore where he now lives, working for ESPN STAR Sports. This is pretty much it. He was offered either £5 or £10 a week more. Said he could've gone to the RS straight away, but went to Villa out of respect for Everton. Didn't he stay at Villa for 3 years? I know fans will always hate on him, but he remains to this day very much an Everton fan.

Howard will always be a true Everton legend, but he wasn't infallible - he did move players on that many at the time would rather have kept.

Back to Tricky Trev - my favourite player of that era. Briiliant on the wing, great filling in up front when needed, even saw him hold his own in centre midfield. Hated Rangers after they screwed us for him and Stevens, don't forget they sold Tricky to Marseille as well for £4.5m, and then bought him back two or three years later for buttons.

I'm pretty sure Tricky is a football agent now. A few years ago I worked briefly with a footy agent in Singapore on a sponsorship deal, and had access to the list of all registered agents. Address, home and mobile number, email address etc. (Tricky was on there - think he was based in Scotland somewhere). To be honest, I would've felt more comfortable having the personal details of the Mafia.
