Considering booking a stay in either Rabac or Porec (Croatia) next year. Look to be small old town area's. Anyone been?
Istria is nice, quieter than the Dalmation coast. Was a bit further up the coast than Porec back in Sept and really enjoyed it. I'd suggest hiring a car if you want to get out and about. Tours are steep and public transport is patchy.

Back in the 80s had a great holiday on St Nicolas Island just off Porec.Did a lot of swimming until the local news showed local fishermen had netted a Great White.

I'm going to Krakow for 4 nights midweek in a couple of weeks.
Been before but for a stag do, going with Mrs LT, looking to visit the castle and surrounding towns via train.
Not really looking to visit Auschwitz (I'd be too upset) nor salt mine (Think I'd be bored)
Open to suggestions for bars, restaurants or towns to visit, cheers.
Nova Huta is worth a poke around. A Stalin commissioned communist ideal town. You can get tours in Ladas I believe.

You don't need to go to Auswitz to get a feel for the horror. The kazimierz district has lots of history of that era on display (the chairs in the square display/memorial is haunting) and there's the Schindler factory. That was enough for me, hideous Nazi pigs.

Got a 12 hour flight from LHR to HKG and then a 3 hour flight to BKK coming up later today. Not looking forward to such a long flight tbhwy, and I'm wishing I had spent the extra £200 to fly direct. Urghh

Has anyone been to Oman? If so, any thoughts on it welcome...

Lots of investments being made and properties going up all over the place so tempted to have a little dabble next year.

Most pleasant gulf state by far. Much more chilled out and less in your face than neighbours. Also much greener than other places nearby...I was in Salalah during monsoon season one year and it was like a rain forest...you wouldn't have known you were in Arabia.

Stayed in Muscat for 2 weeks, during the World Cup 2022. Flew into Qatar for the games. I’d also previously visited all the emirates for work.

Totally different to Dubai etc, no high rise towers. The problem I found with Muscat, is that it’s a mega strip city. It hugs the coast, constrained by the mountains behind it.

Consequently, everywhere was miles away from anywhere. Very few western entertainment venues, compared to Dubai. But alcohol was available, in enough places to make it tolerable.

The people were superb, I thought it was far more authentic than any of the the Emirates.

The airport is like a Taj Mahal, massive empty and with a deserted expressway into town.

I reckon it would be superb, certainly weather wise, but the further you are from Muscat, the more “rural” and non western it will be.

Just back from a trip to Liechtenstein, for the recent Wales game. Travelled via Munich, Feldkirch in Austria, then Zurich.

Jeez, they all live on a completely different planet. We travelled by train, smart, new and on time. We had a change on the trip from Munich to Feldkirch at Bregenz, 4 minutes. The connecting train was waiting for us and left bang on time.

Everywhere we went, left us with a vision that we live in a Dickensian [Poor language removed]-hole. Everything was so much better. Trains, stations were fantastic, super, idiot propf, departure boards. Cafes and bars that sold decent grub and didn’t rip us off.

The towns in Austria and Liechtenstein in particular, were like a sales brochure vision, of what we could have in the UK, in 50 year’s time.

The towns and trains weren’t brutalised, they were smart and all designed for the user. The comparative wealth of the inhabitants was very obvious, by the prices everywhere. Jeez we’ve screwed this country !

Muscat was nice and the people were friendly. Everywhere seems to need a car/taxi to get to though and it isn't really convenient to live there in my opinion. But then I'm used to living in a bustling 24/7 city...

There isn't much in the way of shopping and Western food is mostly limited to an unbelievable amount of American fast food chains.

I wouldn't want to live there. I'm not sure about the short-term rental opportunities as many tourists seem to use Muscat as a base before heading to the desert. I think you'd need a high volume of guests to make it interesting and unless they invest heavily to attract people that will be difficult.
