Homepage Article Transfer Window Assessment

We could have solved EASILY at lthe very least the FB positions...especially RB.

The club spent over £100M and RB was a stand out to be fixed but wasn't.

….seems Tete was a definite target, presumably nobody beyond that.

I do think having Ndiaye proven on the right and Grealish settled really well on the left it does now mean they can more accurately judge the type of full backs that best blend with them.

We got some players in for some of the positions we need after years of squad neglect and downgrading due to our old owner no longer wanting to finance a football club.
It’s a start, we just need the rest of the team and some, ANY, backup so we have the option of substitutions which don’t make us significantly worse.

Yes, but that was very early in the window and the club should have nailed RB as a matter of urgency before spending the budget for the window.

Patterson wont move? Fine. Leave him to rot in the U21s. But that shouldn't mean we leave ourselves short in a position that has blighted this club for years.

….i can’t blame Patterson for not moving unless it’s a loan. He’s contracted until 2027 and I’d imagine anybody who’d want him will be at a lower standard for significantly lower wages. Looks like we’re stuck for at least another 2 seasons.

I’m staggered we’ve not been able to find an effective RB for relatively low cost in a global market. Crazy.

That's why I said we have to acknowledge that and get a RB in any case.

Probably Coleman retiring will be the catalyst to force the club's hand on a RB - although you have to say that the owners handed ample funds for the 'exceptional operators' in charge of our spending to solve the RB problem.

Oh I dont agree with that bit. Just the bits I said I agreed with.
Barry - looks nowhere near PL suited
Aznou (because Moyes wont play him)
Dibling - not the direct player we needed

Just those three we look to have blown £60M on.

Jury out on Rohl

Alcaraz and Grealish and KDH are the successes...and we already knew Alacaraz would be able to do a reasonable job.

To me, that's at best a 5/10 transfer window.

That cash spent on Barry, Aznou and Dibling - spent well - could and should have solved our goal scoring issues and RB issue.

I would agree at this point in time but I think the Jury is still out on both Rohl and Dibling. WE can reassess that window when this season ends.

The big 40m signing should have been on a very fast wide forward who would run in behind, stretch the pitch, and put delivery into the box. I still think Dibling will be good in a couple of years time but we needed a much more direct player who was ready to play week in week out.

Obviously too early to know if the Barry signing will work out but I'd like to see some encouraging signs over the next couple of months.

The lack of a full back signing was just very strange. We needed more pace and quality in that area and it's not a difficult position to recruit. Arguably the easiest on the pitch.

The two biggest needs we have, in my opinion, are RB and a striker. If we could only make one move, it would have to be a striker.

We are not conceding goals like we did last year. Although not ideal, Jake has done alright back there. We have Garner who can step up. And Ndiaye and others have been good for the most part tracking back to help.

Up top is a different story. We are not scoring goals. We’re missing chances. You put in a striker only half as good as Haaland into our side and we’re immediately transformed.

We’re doing more or less okay at RB. We have some in-house solutions. We really don’t have a solution for striker beyond the back and forth Beto/ Barry experiment or trying some midfielders or wingers as a striker. So for me, top priority is a striker. We need a goal scorer who can start and one who allows Beto to come in late as a sub. And then we could loan Barry to get experience.

….the ‘wide forwards’ are probably our most effective players this season, so I wouldn’t complain about the need to ‘spend £40m on another’. The indication is that the monies spent on Dibling and Barry could’ve been better spent.

I hate saying it but we should have pushed more for Fatawu of Leicester. i get the reluctance due to him having just come off the back of an injury and when we did make a tentative enquiry it was late in the window and they were not selling him. He is more further on in his development imo, far more like a right sided Doku which for me is what we needed, its nothing against Tyler I'm sure he will come good I just think we would have seen a bit more from someone like Fatawu.
