2004-2005 -61 points 4th
2005-2006 -50 points 11th
2006-2007 -58 points 6th
2007-2008 - 62 points maybe 65 points 5th/6th

Our points total over the last 4 seasons. If we have any chance of breaking into 4th place and better we need to start getting at least 70 points. last summer we spent 25m and we are 1 point better then 2004-2005 and 4 points better than last season (i know we have one more game). we need to invest big in quallity players to break that 70 point mark! if we look at the points we have finished on it shows our improvement is very small. I can see where tx bill is coming from with the leeds arguement. We are desperate for investment or we will always average around the 60 point mark whilst other clubs around us will be investing and aiming higher. now 60 points 5th or 6th in 3-4years it could mean 9th or 10th place.

Disagree completely. Your saying 60 points now is 5th or 6th but in 3-4 years it could mean 9th or 10th? On that logic 60 points in 3-4 years could mean Champions League (which it has in the past)

It obviously depends entirely on how the season goes.

danny, i don't think we agree on anything. what i am saying is with what we have spent over the last few years we haven't really improved on our overall points total, i also think we will need to break at least the 70 pts mark to claim 4th. so we will need to invest allot more money than what we have to get those extra points.

But we have? 62 this year is our highest. Even more impressive when points have been more competitive at the top this season.

I see what your saying, but its not all doom and gloom (y)

i think you need to weigh up the odds here..if we do not improve , we stagnate and everyone over takes us, that improvement obviously equires some investment..sure players are getting cheaper, but the best players are still costing 25+ mill..you also have to look at how much we have..the fact bully and winkle are [Poor language removed] up our club and syphoning what little we have...i wouldnt be suprised if johnson was a secret member of the board, because nothing has changed in that respect since he has allegedly gone.

If we invest too big...is there such a thing? the leeds cliche these days is largely irrelevant, because the league is now far more competative than back in their [leeds] days in the prem. For example in the past 5 or 6 years, teams have got better, and are challenging harder to either break into the top 4 or even 5th for guaranteed european place.

There is a big difference in league positions..if you dont invest the clubs with more money will eventually take you over..moyes knows this and needs the investment to break and hold 4th place next year. Bully needs to cough up the money he said, he would move the earth for if efc qualified for the champs league..well we finished 5th and we need the champs league money to stay ahead..anything less this year than 30 million is unacceptable, and if bully cant provide it, both him and winkle must resign their positions.

anyways we have never had a better chance, of breaking the top 4 monopoly, this is a chance of a real lifetime, we can become the huge club we once where...its down to bully now..does he want us to be a top 4 club, or a team struggling to maintain 5th in the also rans?

we need a couple of good midfielders. they dont often come cheap. Saying that Moysey's found a few.... but I think he's getting fed up shopping in the bargain basement.

too right bluewoo, though there are some good players in lower leagues, we need quality over quantity in that respect..good for squad places, but really to challenge the top 4 we do desperatly need a big cash injection, or next season we mightn't be so lucky and get away with what we did this year in terms or end of season placement.

We need to sign 6 or 7 players in the summer..direct qoute from Ronnie Goodlass on radio merseyside and frankly he's got a point.

I'll say in here we're not far off the rs IMO (light years away from the top 3 but hey ho) but we're going to have to go for broke at sometime to progress, the squad is tiny in this day and age and while they did very well in the league we got nowhere in any cup compitition (lets be fair we got dumped out of europe at the first sign of a good side) and realisticly this is the only silverware we're going to see anytime soon.

There comes a time when the board are going to have to give DM some heavy money to spend becuase you can bet spurs wont stay quiet over the summer transfer wise.

I'm not asking for superstars what we need is to let DM do what he does best and go delving into the lower leagues and sign a few players from there, his track record in that respect speaks for itself and maybe then spend big on a sidwell or someone like that.

I know it was the mickey mouse cup, but we did reach the semi's. As for UEFA, we beat one of the finalists, and the team that 'dumped' us out, got their asses outplayed and handed to them on a plate before we showed our poor penalty taking skills.

Baines will be fine for next season so our defence will be sorted. We don't need 6-7 signings. I think just a few good midfielders would do.

Everyone wants £50million+ a year to spend, who wouldnt, but if you aint got it, dont spend it, look at the state of leeds now after they spent what they didnt have. I think the club's moving in the right direction, until someone else can come in with megabucks then kenwrights alright for me. Eventhen im not sure id like it. Foreign criminalls owning premiership clubs, people who have ripped off the poor in their own countrys, chelsea, man city, portsmouth no thanks!

imo we need 4 midfeilders. 2 quality central players, a winger and an attacking player like arshavin (i doubt we will get him), he can play on the wing as well as behind the striker.

i think if there was the opportunity, i would bring in another quality striker. i would buy Bent from Tottenham but not for the price they payed for him.

i think we will sign another defender as well. Gardner wasn't named on the OS with Grav and Wessels, will we sign him as cover? im not sure of him.

Wessels is leaving so we will prob get in a new keeper as well.

thats 7 players already but hopefully Rodwell and Gosling will brake into the first team aswell.

Honestly the europe run was just that a run that gave the team some experience and for that its proved useful to the team.

If i'm honest it was late and i'd forgotten about the carling run *blush* but my point stands thats our route to silverware for the next few years so we have to become a good cup side and for that we need a much bigger squad.
