Toxic Fans - Are They Holding Us Back?

Sports people love the socials when they're promoting brands or getting adulation.
You take the rough with the smooth I'm afraid or close your accounts.

I have one question about this logic.

Would you say the same if a player was doing some face to face event and somebody said that to them, or just stood there shouting vile abuse at them, or is it just when cowards do it anonymously over the internet that we just shrug our shoulders and go 'meh, part of society isn't it'?

Abuse is abuse and should be condemned, in whatever form.

Told fan(s) in the Family Enclosure to F off about 4 times near the end of the game. A sign of a player who knows he wont, or doesn't want to be here I reckon.

Another typical example of players hearing fans giving them grief and reacting. Will we never learn. He came over to us and got a few boos as well - pathetic.
Just seen this.

The DCL thread is an interesting read as someone are having a go at the fans for abusing an injured player being subbed and some, who I back, are saying fans who pay money have a right to express themselves. These paying fans are the real fans and kept us up two years running.

Seen this from DCL’a dar too. Do we have a problem with toxic entitled fans on the cocaine buddies??

Completely unsurprising to see his dad receiving abuse on the socials now as well.. :coffee:

This 'us vs. them' stuff amongst the fanbase is getting absoutely pathetic..

Part of the issue is exaggeration, our own fans love to pick faults with others. There were boos and a few unsavoury words directed towards DCL yesterday but it wasn't that bad. I've seen the entirety of Goodison boo Maupay off the pitch before and the abuse he and Rondon among others have had has been miles worse.

Said it in DCL thread, no idea at the ground that DCL had a bad facial injury - no replays or close ups. Booing comes from frustration at witnessing the same gutless performances week in, week out.

Oh, would you look at that.

Yet another example of our toxic fans which many claim don’t exist.

What’s the common denominator over the last few years? That’s right, toxic fans.

Top lads, super bloos, NSNO. It’s all about THEM.

I remember an unnervingly large contingent of Goodison booing Schneiderlin before he came on. We can all be frustrated with him, but really? How does that help?

I remember watching Digne getting a bottle thrown at his head; I watched a fan, with his child in his arms, punching a Lyon player.

I hear vile stuff fairly regularly in the LG. Now it's not all fans, far from it, but they are not exaggerations and simple mathematics would suggest it's a problem.

People are right to be frustrated, however I simply can't condone this growing trend of incidents occurring in the name of frustration or whatnot.

We give the RS pelters for how they act abroad, yet how are we acting here?
