I thought we had some guts, some fight. But now I think we’re no better than Villa or Sunderland when they fell out of the PL - without expecting it.

And it feels pretty awful.

We have enough time to turn it round but where are the positives? Bournemouth and Palace (below us) have been, respectively unlucky and poor (but showing signs of life)

But we just feel sorry for ourselves.

Things are pretty bad but it's not like Villa and Sunderland got relegated and everyone was shocked. They were hanging around the bottom and having relegation scraps in previous seasons.

They both had very poor quality squads when they went down, barely Championship-level quality. I won't buy into the "we"re too good to go down" myth though.... remember QPR spent tens of millions on utter dross a few years' back the season they were relegated.

We have better individual players than both Sunderland last season and Villa two years ago. Doesn't necessarily mean we have a better collective unit though.

We will be fine. We have a better squad than the team that finished 7th last season, albeit without Lukaku. A good manager will whip them into shape fairly quick.

Lessons must be learnt though. I hope there will be an inquest into how mistakes we're allowed to be made, especially in terms of recruitment.

Bringing in too many players at once, and failing to replace Lukaku and a center back was criminal.

The blame rests squarely at the feet of the board. They are the ones who recruited Koeman and Walsh; a tactically sub-standard manager and a glorified scout.

That about sums it up.

Even in the dark days we had proper snides..a dirty but "fair" tackle always made me smile even though we were 2 down..it displayed a want in the player for the badge and maybe misplaced pride...nowadays i cant help but look at players and see "willow in the whisp" ghosts on their shoulders aka agents, pouring pestilence in their ears...

A comment from a fan on Facebook.

What a complete mess....is this really happening ...some kind of alternate reality.. looked like we might have a go, but still resoundingly beaten .. defeat after defeat after defeat .this is terminal just no getting round it, or trying to be positive ..what is there when you see the likes of that

We were crap as well back in the Walter Smith era.But back then we had people like Big Dunc and Richard Gough in the team. Now our main leaders, are fairly meek and overly polite guy's like Jags and Bainesy.
