For me, i'd go with this - Howard
Coleman Jags Distin Baines
Neville Fellaini
Barkely Osman Arteta
Saha
With Neville in midfield, he would just sit and protect the whole game and wouldnt look to get involved up the pitch and would screen Jags and Distin and cover for Baines and Coleman whenever they bombed on like they like to do. Felli as good as he is deep in midfield, likes to get up and down, box to box you could say and likes to burst forward so wouldnt just sit and offer enough protection to the back 4 so with Neville in there, we would have one sitting midfielder at all times helping out and sweeping things up, just like Carsley used to.
With Neville being captain and signing a new deal and being branded by Moyes as being very important to us, there will always be a place in the team for him so why not have him in midfield doing the kind of role Carsley used to do.
Another Moyes favourite that for me, at this present time shouldnt be considered a starter anymore, is Cahill. I love the bloke, he loves Everton to bits and gives his all for the team and certainly knows where the goal is but technically, he's not all that. His footballing ability and brain isnt good enough to play off the striker and he isnt creative and when he's in the team we play too much hoof ball towards him.
With the midfield we had last night, we had the likes of Arteta, Osman and Barkley who are all good on the deck and have good feet and are technically sound and with Arteta and Barkley having good eyes for passes, we was able to be more creative and more assertive in possesion.
With the 3 mentioned above, we can play the intricate, 1 and 2 touch stuff, Cahill for all his good attributes, sadly cant. But i doubt Moyes will ever drop him and consider him to be an impact sub these days.
And so that we dont over expose young Barkley and burn him out, we could use Gueye out wide when fit and his pace would be another threat added to the team.
