Don't think we should be writing him of just yet - he doesn't even need to be starting at his age - look at Lingaard. Davies, DCL, Kenny, Holgate, Baningime, Dowell - all deserve more time around the first team and a good part of pre-season. Maybe even Feeney and Robinson too.

If we dump our youngsters after 1 unremarkable season then we don't really deserve the label 'stable'. We did finish 8th after all, which kind of suggests the youngsters are already fine for a mid-table premiership squad - only question now is whether they can improve further. I kind of feel we should get Sandro back for a pre/season too.

That said, the squad can only be so big.

Don’t think anybody with a few brain cells left is writing him off this early. lol
 
Well he played the most PL minutes of any teenager last season and for three different managers who must have been seeing something in him. And yet he had a poor season by the standards we were hoping he’d achieve. He doesn’t have the eye catching appeal of an outrageously talented midfielder , striker etc, but he has something . I think he’ll develop along the lines of a Gareth Barry/ James Milner type, not in an obvious playing style comparison but as someone who started young , built up experience season after season to become a pretty useful player at his club , loved by some , hated by others , not always recognised by fans but an essential team member for knowing managers.
Still only 19 until later this month so undoubtedly his best seasons lie ahead , hopefully with us in the PL.
 

The most noticeable thing for me last season was he had no actual position, it looked as if he was told to go and run around. If Silva has a plan and a style then hopefully he can be coached in a defined position.
We had older more experienced players who looked lost last season, so I’m willing to forgive a younger player having a bad season in comparison to his first.

Pre-Season is so important this year.
 
The only things that stick in my memory in regards to Tom Davies since he scored against Man City in our 4-0 win over them is him looking like Deirdre Barlow at The Dixie’s and this monstrosity he is wearing. Says a lot about his performances over the past 18 months.

A grafter who will learn from Experience. He gets plenty game time. Needs to compose himself on the ball. He is 19 isnt he. People writting him off as a top player maybe need to wait till early 20s in 2 to 3 years to make that point. Fair enough if he making the same posession mistakes at 22/23 years.
 
Young players often have a duff second season. Even Rooney did really.

Hopeful he can come back this season a bit stronger, physically and mentally.
