His running without the ball seems to be a bit aimless, over the last few games it appears the players have been schooled to get back into position quickly. When I watch Tom Davies he appears not to know where he should be when the opposition have the ball. Maybe he hasn’t played enough recently.
I find it worrying, Carlo seems to have found a way for us to win games without our best players being on the field but it takes discipline from all eleven, if Tom is to play a full part he needs to learn where he should be in all situations.
I actually thought the opposite, that one of his strengths was filling the gaps when the opposition had the ball to reduce space for them , pairing up at times to ensure Arsenal attackers didn’t get through and ensuring they weren’t running at us and shooting from distance. Generally I thought Tom was better without the ball , he’s got the discipline to do what Carlo tells him when the opposition have the ball.
Where he was lacking I thought was the times when our defenders needed an outlet in tight situations , he didn’t move that extra five yards into space to make himself available, Allan excels at that. Going forward though he picked up some good positions moving into space .
In short , he’s no Allan but he’s not too bad a stand in ..... until we lose then it’s all Tom’s fault.
