Silva named him captain as there were no real viable alternatives, he didn't sort of win the honour in a fighting pit.
He didn't play "well", he played marginally above his unsual standard. He was woeful for at least 30 mins (where the team actually needed some leadership).
There was loads of viable better options than a twenty year old who isn’t a regular starter.
Absolutely baffling decision from silva.

There wasn't though. Out of that 11 there aren't any leaders. The only one you can make a claim for is Sigurdsson and he's captained the club just as many times as Davies before Sunday. You do also realise he isn't the first choice captain and is actually 4th choice. Nothing to get riled up over.

Maybe Tom has a better mentality than anyone else on that pitch
Maybe Silva see's Tom as being "Everton" and he feels that is important for the identity of the team instead of giving it underperforming "experienced" players
Maybe he wants to make a statement as in "look at the state of all you experienced underperforming pro's, im giving the armband to a 20 year old because none of you have shown the slightet degree of leadership since i have been here"
Maybe its because Davies was actually someone who would see the captaincy as an honour
Maybe, just maybe, it dosent really matter and the armband is a mythical piece of cloth that shouldn't bolster or hinder any players performance, you are there for a coin toss and that is it!

None of them have displayed an ounce of leadership quality for Everton at any point.
The rest of the lineup you have a goalkeeper (hardly ever captain in english football), a defender on loan already talking about going back to Chelsea. A young defender who may not even be prem quality. A new signing in Digne who has only just made the team. Ditto Richarlison who is just back from a headbutt ban. DCL - see Kenny. Walcott - not been here long perhaps had a shout.
Davies is the obvious and natural choice from that lineup with only Walcott as real competition. Given Davies will prob be here longer and seems to play better with the armband it’s a good choice by Silva.

The same Davies and Kenny that nobody is allowed to slag off cos it’ll effect their development? Say what you like about Davies, but there is no way he should be captain. I think Silva is setting him up for failure by giving him the arm band, it isn’t fair on him as he hasn’t proved himself good enough to be a regular yet so he shouldn’t be skipper.
