Hodgson must've been bowled over by his performance in that game. I remember years ago (89/90 season) when a live ITV game of us at Villa was the audition between Newell and Platt as to who would get the nod for England. We lost 2-6. Think Platt got a couple. Everton that.

£24mil Depay who had pretty much every big club in Europe after him? I know we're not a small club by any means, but we wouldn't have stood a chance.
