Would just like to pre-empt the whinging:

  • He will be a very regular starter
  • Probably on the left of the 3 attacking midfielders
  • People are going to throw their toys out of the pram about us not playing two wingers which literally no one does
  • Also he will either be a complete revelation or become the new scapegoat. I actually think the former will happen

And yet we played 2 wingers when we finished 5th.

Ahhhh you know what I mean, he isn't a pacey running down the wings at opposing players type like Deulofeu, Mirallas etc. It's not just their position on the lineup.
wingers aren't one thing. They can be different types of players and still be wingers.

Pienaar still took on players despite not having pace. He had the best close control and skill at the club. He didn't need pace.

You're right there. Pienaar plays as a slightly wide attacking midfielder who comes inside though - here's a quote from him:

"“I occasionally drag defenders out wide but I don’t like to stand out on the wing; I prefer playing more through the middle."

Don't want to get into semantics about wingers etc. haha but you see what I'm getting at. @MoutsGoat also, soz for not explaining myself v well

Ok, so we can agree hes a wide midfielder and not Sammy Ets or Ross Barkley.
