Good passer of the ball, values possession, technically sound and tactically aware. He can play a few roles in midfield depending on who his other midfielders are. He can play the attacking role though he's probably better as one of two central midfielders in a 4-3-3 or a 4-5-1. He could also play the "wide" role in our team with the way our fullbacks overlap. I think the most obvious comparison is Osman, though I think he's probably a bit more athletic than Osman.
But, please, for his own career's sake any buyer/new manager should not try to use him just to fill out the team sheet and make him play practically every available midfield role.

Let him sit in centre and be the tidy, composed passer and recycler of possession.

And no, sideways passing is a very, very important skill. The square ball is what make openings for through balls open up.

I think a midfield 3 of him mccarthy and barkley would work well actually in some games, Mccarthy doing all the work barkley with the incisiveness cleverley with the neatness and bringing other more into it. especially if we get someone in with an end product/door unlockerly type on the left to compliment mirallas on the right (yes i mean Tadic obviously ;o)

The only thing I liked about this is the language the papers used "Man United face fight to hold on to Welbeck and Cleverly as Everton plan a double swoop".... I wouldn't want either of them but I love the idea that United are going to have to listen to the types of transfer hogwash that we are used to. :)

Cannot say I am bowled over at the prospect of taking on board these Man U cast offs, having said that though I think it unlikely Man U will let players go until such time as a new manager is sorted. I should think they would like to leave the decision on who is to go to him.

hmm bit different imo. we get peed off with them being linked with our best players. i bet a large majority of united's fanbase would love to see those two bought by someone else, especially cleverley.

Not delighted by either of those if I'm honest, especially Cleverley. But then again I was annoyed at buying McCarthy, and he has proved me wrong, so I think I'll keep quiet now, and trust Martinez a bit more.

They are both young players, who try to play football on the deck. They have some raw attributes, and hopefully Martinez can work with those.

If we were trying to prise anyone from man utd I would rather try and get chicarito vastly underrated striker all round game is quite good as well
