Good passer of the ball, values possession, technically sound and tactically aware. He can play a few roles in midfield depending on who his other midfielders are. He can play the attacking role though he's probably better as one of two central midfielders in a 4-3-3 or a 4-5-1. He could also play the "wide" role in our team with the way our fullbacks overlap. I think the most obvious comparison is Osman, though I think he's probably a bit more athletic than Osman.
...one would hope so

Cleverly went all Rodwell under Moyes. I doubt he'd be as bad a signing as some think. I'm yet to be convinced he's the right signing for us, but I'm willing to accept he could be, given the right tutelage.

Cleverly is not as bad as some people are making out. When he first came onto the scene and had loan spells at Watford and Wigan, he was very influential in both teams and by the end of the Wigan spell, had Alex Ferguson saying he was the best midfield talent in England he had seen for quite some time. Unfortunately Injuries have set him back a little in his development and for whatever reason he seems to have been made somewhat of a scapegoat for Man United's failings this season alongside Moyes. Get him in a team like ours with possession football and i feel he could thrive. The lad can pick a pass and has energy and enthusiasm in abundance. Martinez already knows him well and had him playing his best stuff of his career.

For me if the price is not too prohibitive, i would not be against this signing at all.

We don't need either of them. What about Traore and Kone for heavens sake? Those guys have never been tested yet. They could turn out to be magic!

Cleverley? Midfielders we've got.

I agree with the sentiment. Most Arsenal fans thought Ramsey was useless until fairly recently, this season his confidence is up and all of a sudden he looks world class. Barry only developed into a consistently top class player in his late twenties. Look at the difference that a bit of confidence and a different role in the team has made to Naismith. Coleman also struggled at times during his early career. The weight of expectation when playing for Utd is immense and can be too much for some players even though they have enough talent.

Don't think Cleverley would offer us anything we don't already have except for depth really. He certainly isn't the door unlocker which we're crying out for. But then again if Bobby rates him that highly and has seen the lad in training for a whole year then I suppose I trust him on it.

Jack Colback looks like your pretty standard premier league lower team centre mid. Will never particularly worry you but does his job adequately enough. But then he is ginger, and I feel we don't have enough of those around Goodison these days and he would be a free, so again he's a maybe from me.

Jack Cork doesn't seem to start for Southampton and we're better than them so surely we can do better than picking up their benchwarmers? Sounds like a midfield destroyer - I'm basing that purely on the fact that he's never scored for them. So he must be something. Then again, his middle name is Porteous. PORTEOUS.

Sign them all FFS.

Not a fan of Cleverley, but, if we are in Europe next season and want to progress from this season, we are going to need signings like this. Whilst he may not improve on what we have got he will certainly add strength to the squad.

Cannot say I am bowled over at the prospect of taking on board these Man U cast offs, having said that though I think it unlikely Man U will let players go until such time as a new manager is sorted. I should think they would like to leave the decision on who is to go to him.

Cleverley is in the final 12 months of his contract and knows Martinez can get the best out of him. The prices quoted are paper speculation. If Tom wants the move I can see it going through for a lot less than the press are quoting.

We need numbers if we want to do well again in the league and become a force in europe. He would be a useful addition.

All opinions I suppose but mine would be that cleverley adds nothing more than being a hard working squad player. I don't think he's a starter for any of the top 7 clubs! He's not as good as Osman ffs!

Would rather delph or holtby any day of the week and feel either of those would offer much more than cleverley.

He was good that one season for Wigan under bobby tho...
