Everton signed Howard, Gibson or Saha because they weren't good enough for United, so that's not a point for me.

Some players just need the right conditions to succeed. Would you take De Gea over Howard?

(Of course you would because of their respective ages, but I mean entirely theoretically)

Probably? Nice choice to have.

But I think De Gea is a bit better than T-How.

Kind of hurts to say that? Is this what national pride feels like?

Anyone seen enough of the lad to give a reputable review?

I have only seen him a hand full of times, uninspiring is how I'd rate him at present.

Without a doubt I would take him. For me De Gea is the best GK in the league today.

I should specify: Current form being the only deciding factor. Swerve age, future potential, etc.

Because under those circumstances I'd take Lord Dark Helmet and that's about it.

Point I'm trying to make is we shouldn't be upset about taking others' rejects, because many times players just need the right environment to succeed. Howard was at one point somebody else's reject. Coleman was bought for dirt cheap, clearly nobody valued him. Barry was sitting on the bench at Ethiad. Lukaku apparently wasn't good enough for Chelsea, and has kept pace with their top scorer all season.

Cleverley is still pretty young. It's quite possible that he could blossom here like others have already done. Martinez has a terrific eye for value in that regard.

Erm.

Can we get someone better?

I guess from the two I'll take a flyer on Cleverly. Arteta is a bad crab these days as well, and he's 32...and a snidey tit.

Cleverly is just a bad crab...Martinez may be able to fix that.

I'd rather we get Rodwell back. In fact, I hope we take him on loan next season with a view to a permanent transfer. I think he would flourish under Martinez

It's almost like he's had his creativity coached out of him. At Wigan he was fairly dynamic, looked to go forward and had really good delivery - from open play and I seem to recall him taking set pieces as well. Got 11 goals when he was at Watford as well
