I'm not liking the 'Barry to the MLS' rumour either. Surely if an MLS team is going to blow a big hole in their budget it would be on a flashier player than Barry? He's quality at what he does, but not exactly someone you would pay to go and see?

The American footie development system is generally good at producing two things: Keepers and DM's.

Barry just wouldn't be that prized of a commodity. He'd still be an upgrade for the majority of clubs, but most would rather splash cash on a forward that's harder to come by in MLS.

This is sort of what I'm saying though. The opinion of many people on here will be based on snippets of play as he isn't a player you would pay particular attention to.

i've seen quite a bit of him. just don't know what he is. he's not a defensive mid like barry who breaks up play, he's not a box-to-box like mccarthy who breaks up play as well as chase down all over the pitch with energy and he's not an attack minded centre mid like barkley, so what exactly is he?

just don't think he's good enough for the prem, never mind us, that's based on my own opinion of seeing him so many times, not because of what others say. i do understand that people like mccarthy will go unnoticed by opposition fans, just think cleverley is anonymous as opposed to that though.

Are there any better DM's in the MLS than Barry?

I totally agree.

If he had come through the ranks at a lesser club he'd have been nowhere near the England squad imo.

He's a nothing player, who's average at everything and exceptional at nothing.

He's not better than anything we've already got and at £10m I'd weep if we signed him.

You mean "all" instead of "majority" I assume, but that is some typo mate!

What does he actually do ?, he doesn't break up play, he doesn't make killer passes, he doesn't score.

Gibson and Barry are at a different level to cleverly

He's a better player than Gibson IMO. He's not similar in style to either of these players though so it's difficult to compare.

You're right in that he is none of those and he is a bit of an enigma. In terms of style he is probably most similar to Pienaar out of anybody in our team. Would play the same sort of role I feel.

Pienaar is a number 10/winger, cleverly has always played centre midfield

Tough to say. Thing about DM's, the quality of people around you can make you look better or worse. In the Prem, that works with you. MLS, against you.
