He's like a more attack minded McCarthy. If Martinez can get him passing the ball forward rather than sideways and running with the ball at defenders then he'll be a decent buy.

I saw this comment (from a clearly loyal and local Manc) on a website reporting this rumour:

United midfield needs total overhaul. So a backward and sideways passer like Tom needs to have new soccer life elswhere. A self confidence, clued, experienced, stronger, well accurate passer, good in air, ball holder, goal scoring power, game controller, hardworker, consistent and aggressive type midfielder to challenge any club for both domestic and european competitions was what UNITED missed for nearly a decade. This potrayed the fact that new faces like; William Carvalho & Toni Kroose can fill up the loopholes in the midfield while a winger such as Marco Reus has a role to play. Well skilled, talented, energetic, and dependable big wheel defender, Elliquem Mangala is needed at center back, couple with left side defender.

So... United needed a midfielder that could do everything in life perfectly. Apart from Jesus, I don't think anyone has that ability.

Cleverly would be interesting. I trust Martinez's judgement but I don't think he'll come here for the 8 to 12 million reported. I reckon it'd be more like £5m.

Well they were beaten to McCarthy so they have lost out on that.

As for Cleverly, a poor season under a manager who has not done very well with most of his players so perhaps there is something in Cleverly waiting to be found.

He doesn’t strike me as a "Man Utd" player he will end up like Wes brown and others who will find a home elsewhere and play out a mediocre career.

Waste of money for me.

I think Cleverley would fit into the squad well. Maybe to replace Osman in the long run, similar type of player.

I think he's best off away from the spotlight of OT.

He's nowhere near as bad as people make out - its simply because United have been brutal and he's been one of many scapegoats.

The "I watched MCCarthy playing for Wigan 4 times and he was nothing special" brigade is now renamed as "Cleverley isn't good enough".

Agreed. Its fashionable to jump on the "he's crap" bandwagon. Unfortunately most people who do this know very little about the game.

Cleverley is in a very unfortunate position, he has been made the scapegoat for united season, when lets be honest Michael Carrick and co haven't exactly been great - proably because of "how" they are managed and coached.

SAF liked Cleverley as a player - if he didn't he would have got rid.

Personally, Ive never rated Cleverley at all and cant see him fitting in with our tempo. However, Ducker says in this morning's Times that the bid will be about £8m though it could take nearer £12m for Utd to part with him. He adds that when Cleverley was on loan at Wigan, Roberto played him on the left of an attacking trio behind a main striker rather than central midfield where Moyes played him. He must see something in him to consider shelling that much out on him so Im in two minds now.
